why do you say that?

b/w Rockefeller and UW.

I think that its a pretty hard decision, personally. UW has a very very good genome sciences program, which is what I am interested in. Plus theres a ton of young, really really smart PIs there.

UW is incredibly highly ranked and funded...probably a more prestigious research choice than Rockefeller...just my opinion though.

I just got a call from WashU Molecular Cell Biology for an interview on 2/7. Looking forward to see you guys there!

My stats:

Degrees:
M.Sci Georgetown U: Biochemistry and Mol. Biology 3.8
B.S. U. of Colorado Boulder: Molecular Biology/Biochem. 3.5

GRE:
770Q(88%)/660V(94%)/6.0(96%)

NIH IRTA Fellow and I did quite a bit of undergrad research.

No doubt UW is fantastic especially when you throw in the Hutch which has so many phenomenal labs as well as the ISB the overall package is underrated I think.

just got an interview invite from JH this afternoon... was ecstatic until i saw it was the same weekend as yale (2/14). i'm thinking of calling them tomorrow to ask if there are any alternate weekends. it's surprising to me because yale and JH seem pretty comparable and would have some of the same applicants. anybody else in this same situation?

dd4986,

Which program did you apply to at Hopkins? My interviews (for BCMB) are on the weekend of Feb 21. I'm sure they will have alternate dates, as would Yale, I guess. Just call/email them, and find out.

Someone at the whogotin community on LJ got a call from Yale MCGD today... It is going to be hard for me to not sit by the phone all day tomorrow. I wanna get into Yale!

does anyone know the size of the admissions class of UCSF tetrad vs. UCSF BMS? (i.e. how many students enter the program each year)

it seems that tetrad would have more students...

save yourselves the time and trouble and go work for phil sharp at MIT, david liu at harvard, or tom tuschl at rockefeller. it'll make all y'all lives a lot easier.

I just got a rejection from UW.

Applied: Weill-Cornell (BCMB), JHU (BCMB), Yale (BBS), UCSD (Biomed), UW (MCB), WashU (DBBS), UMass Worcester (GSBS)
Interviews: Cornell 2/21, JHU 1/24
Denied: UW

Hello everyone, first of all I got a rejection from UCSF too :(...And I havnt heard anything from JHU, I am getting really anxious as it is one of my top choices. Also does UW stand for University of Wisconsin? You guys have spoken highly of the university, why is it so?

Hi MCBartist, Congrats on all your interviews. UW stands for University of Washington who rejected my application this morning :-(!!!

did you apply to bms or tetrad at ucsf?

Hi, I'm new to the thread.

I applied to UCSF (BMS), UW(neuro), UCSD(neuro), UCB(neuro), Stanford.

Accepted:
Rejected: UCSF BMS 1/08/08

btw, it's not who you know. I work for an established prof. at UCSF, and got letters from several chairs at UCSF and Stanford. 4yrs post grad. research, 4.0 M.S. 3.0 undergrad (neuro, large research u.), gre's ok. That wasn't enough.

I just got an interview with UW!!!! I was on edge all day waiting for Yale, and I was caught completely off guard by UW.

I think that they are calling everyone today and tomorrow - she said she was calling 73 people today and tomorrow, and all slots for interviews would probably be full after that.

Congrats!! With your stats, it would be an anomaly if UW didn't call you for an interview. Good luck!!

New to the post here's my info, hope it helps

Applied, no word back yet: Northwestern(IPIB), UMichigan(PIBS), Harvard(BBS), BU (cell biology), Yale(Pharmacology), Columbia(Biomed.), Maryland(cell bio)
Applied, have interview invites: UWisc(Biochem), Weill-Cornell(Pharmacology), UPenn(CAMB), Hopkins(Pharmacology)

Had decent (not exceptional) grades and good GREs, 2 years of postbac NIH experience.

Anyone heard from U of Michigan? I really like their format.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone, it sounds like everyone has an exciting couple of months ahead.

Just FYI to avoid confusion, University of Wisconsin also calls itself UW, and it is as equally highly regarded as University of Washington.
