<p>My son was accepted several schools with these three majors.
His first choce was biology saying he loved bio.
Then he changed his mind after internship at medical school last summer to engineering.
The reason is that job market of bio is very hard and biology is so boring.
Eventually he applied with three majors.
The problem is that he is not strong at math and not intereted either.
Futhermore son is hard to stand boredom.
He said he chose engineering only because it is good to get a job.
And computer programming is more active. :(</p>
<p>I and H are not sure about his ability to survive in this very competative major and overcome
hard and boring(im sure he is gonna complain) program.
Since my H is computer engineer himself he has been very suspicious about that.
But son's future is also important.
We are wondering if biology major is really risky to get a job after college.
In my instinct as a mom I'd rather send him to medical school than engineering school.</p>
<p>MD medical schools in the US are extremely selective, making the first cut at very high GPA and MCAT score levels (and then there are interviews and such in the selection process). So doing pre-med (which can be done with any major) is no guarantee of going to medical school (which is also extremely expensive in most cases).</p>
<p>On the other hand, if he does not like doing engineering or computer design problems with the mathematical thinking involved, he is less likely to do well in such a major.</p>
<p>mhyoon,
I’m assuming your son has been accepted at several US colleges.
In the US, college students are not forced or coerced, at age 18, to pick their future career before they even start taking classes, because it is very hard for anyone, let alone a teenager, to accurately predict what they will actually WANT or can do- 4-5 years from now or what field may REALLY interest them.
So my advise is to let your son find out, in college, what field really “turns him on” .
It’s his career, not yours.</p>
<p>@ucbalumnus , sorry, the sentence about medical school was my joke,I just wanted to say
I was that afraid. @menloparkmom, I know it his career even though Im not familiar with US college,
But im not sure i would be ok if he struggles a lot. It might be odd to ask this kind of question here. :)</p>
<p>Anyway thank you both.
I must have been so emotional with his poor math grade.</p>
