On the bio site http://cohesion.rice.edu/naturalsciences/eeb/undergrad.cfm?doc_id=4156 they have a list of required core courses. Can those count as distribution requirements too?

They only count in the appropriate distribution area (and all are D3 classes). Any major with different specialty areas (including bio and physics) will have "core" classes, plus the additional specialty classes (such as a focus on cell bio or evolutionary bio). These aren't the same as university core requirements, it just saves them the effort of having to reprint the same courses under each subject heading. For a better idea of what each major requires, check out the General Announcements. You'll get an updated copy for 06-07 when you arrive, but 05-06's is available at http://www.rice.edu/catalog/2005_2006/index.html.

Thanks for the info.
