Biology E/M

Hi everyone. I was wondering whether Biology E or M was easier and which one do you recommend someone to take? (I have taken AP Biology this year). And also which book/s are the best ones to use to study from your experience, especially if you have gotten 750+. Thanks alot!

I'm prepping for the fall and finished AP Bio this year.

The molecular seems like a more logical choice - AP Bio covers it well while the E section tests the last section of AP Bio (ecology) and more.

Molecular is preferable if you are really into the smaller details, maybe more math-inclined (even tho you don't need math, just a personality thing I noticed).

Environmental would be good after an environmental Science and seems more just memorizing larger concepts than smaller details like M.

AP Bio sets you up well for M but its always a good idea to have a firm grasp of both E and M - you never know what they can throw at you!

No review book covers Bio perfectly. I use Barrons with McGraw Hill and just double check with Sparknotes online Bio. I have always been a strong Barrons advocate, but McGraw Hill is beating Barrons at the moment as I go through the material and make outlines......better explanations, more useful detail, better connections to other Biology units....alot is personal taste.

I got 750 on mine, after completing AP Bio. I took Bio M. The general scores of Bio M tend to be higher than Bio E. As a supplement, I studied with the Princeton Review book. It really proved suffiicient for the Bio M test.

thank you both of you. anyone else?

Lol. I didn't get a 750, but a 730 (b/c of my stupid outdated bio class..seriously.. it sucked. If i had taken a better class, I tell you. I could have made a better score)
I just used Barrons +PR+ Kaplan(for their tests). PR had a lot of questions that could show up on the real thing.
Sparknotes helps too. It gives you about the real score you will get on the real SAT. I kept getting scores between 700-750..and look: I ended up with a 730. haha

Take practice tests and do the one you do better on.

honestly i had prepared for M, but when i got to the test, i just looked at E and decided to do it. i got a 770 and i used kaplan and my cliffs AP bio book to prepare. also, sparksnotes online helps too with the practice tests and the review. all that should get u a good score.

try bio m

I took Bio-E and got a 750, and M the month before for a 740.

They're both not hard-I didn't study besides the review I got from my AP bio class, and some free sparknotes online tests. I scored 740 twice on the sparknotes practice tests, so I think they're pretty accurate.

As for which one to pick, don't set your heart so fast-wait until test day and look to see which set you're prepared for better. If you have AP bio, it works best that way as the ap bio course covers both ecology and molecular questions. The bottom line is, take the section that you can answer the best.

If u know the material, neither test is significantly harder or easier than the other. (I usually got similar scores when I took practice tests) Just choose the one that u feel more comfortable with. I studied with Barrons, PR, Kaplan, and a little bit of Sparknotes. I took the M test because I'm into chemistry and other little stuff like that - ended up with a 760..

DS decided he was going to take the M test. But, on test day, he changed his mind and took the E test. He said he knew most of the material not from his AP Bio class, but from his regular 9th grade biology class. He got a 730 on the Bio E.

I guess it depends on how you're class taught you. My AP Bio class was heavy on the molecular side, we didn't even have an ecology unit. I took Bio M and scored an 800.

hey chaosrecon- how much detail did you study for the SAT II? When I took SAT II US History I felt it was almost on level with the AP MC section...Maybe Bio will be like that as well..

lordbritish89, I took the AP Bio course and hardly had to study for the SAT II at all (just took a couple of practice tests). If you do take the AP course you should be fine. Personally, I find the E section easier, but I guess that's just because I finished studying it right before the test. =) Anyway, I got an 800! w00t!

Awesome! I gotta keep the material fresh over the summer tho :( I'm making sure everything is covered....we had a kind of weird class. Spent a whole month just breeding fruit flies!

I studied quite a bit for SAT II actually. I studied hard for the AP Bio Exam, but since the SAT II is far less detailed, I had to review a lot of concepts that wasnt covered in my school's class, such as general ecology and embryology.
