biology graduate going mba?

hey guys, i am an international student here in the US. i have been here for 10 years and graduated from a university here with a biology degree. now i am working in a research hospital as a laboratory researcher. i was really wanting to become a doctor when i was in college, that is the reason i chose biology as my undergrad major. it was my senior year that my family's green card application was denied and i think there is no way i could have ever afford the tuition for med school. hehe ok enough for the background.

to be honest, i found out biology to be quite boring. and i have talked to my current PI, he told me that i am already very lucky to find a job right after graduation in today's market. so here i am, after 4, 5 months of working in a lab, i found out it is very boring, and it is not what i wanted to do with my life. eventhough my PI want me to get into the PHD program in the nearby university, i don't think it is a worthy route to waste 5 more years of my life... i found out business was quite interesting few years back when i did part time customer service representitve for 4 years in my parent's company. I also started a little internet business, not so much of a money making thing cause i am still full time student and part time customer rep, but i was able to make my own aptment rent and food money out of it, haha. and i found out it was far more interesting and rewarding to deal with people rather than sit on a lab bench doing the same thing over and over again. i am not saying it is bad, but it is not what i am looking for in the future.

therefore, i think it is better for me to pursue a MBA degree rather than a biology PHD in the near future... so i am here ask for your suggestions :) i am thinking about some of the part time MBA programs.

my condition:
i don't have relevant work experience, only 1.5 years of lab experience by the time i apply to MBA programs. (1 year from now). and i seriously doubt my employer would ever promote me to lab manager like the other poster said in his situation, our manager now is a 53 years old MBA grad with 20+ years experience... it is already a good thing that my PI is willing to apply H1-b visa for me, since it's a non profit hospital, i will get the visa by next month hopefully. thus i could have the resident tuition... (i have been paying international fee for the last 7 years! it was almost 60k a year with room and such in a public university... great thanks to my family in china... ><)

i have not yet took the gmat exam. i only did the practice one and scored around 650... but i know it should be very different than the actual test... math was kind of simple but eng is really hard and confusing... i will have to work on my eng...

i am not shooting for ivy leagues and other top programs, i don't think i would ever afford the tuition on my own, and my family is not doing that great these years back in my country.

so my question is, what you guys suggesting i should do? part time or full time MBA? part time MBA in my current state could let me have the resident fee in this case...

probably 3-4 years from now, when i graduate from MBA program, will the economy gets better? so that i could find a job? i know that no one can predict the future but just a thought would help to cheer me up a bit haha

i am not sure how many of you guys are doing job hunt. but this is what i could tell you about our economy right now. i graduated from one of the top UC school on march, i didnot have a 4.0 gpa but well above 3.5, i have alot of recommendation letter from my professors, since i am an international student, so i worked in my university's lab for 2 years. i applied to over 300 companies both in state (california) and out of state. only 3 places sent me back for an interview. after i apply, only 1 place (obviously not in california) said could let me try for 3 month for an extremly low salary... hehe, so yea... it is just that bad. :(

sry for the long post and disturbing english grammar lol thanks alot for reading my post, any thoughts/inputs would be greatly appreciated :)

no one? >< plz i need some help… thanks alot guys

I’m not going to be much help in MBA advice, but on a side note:
There are lots of MBA programs that have a focus on public health, biology, medicine, etc. I know, for example, UCB has one one Health Management. Your work experience and educational background would be better suited for one of those focused programs as opposed to other types of MBAs. I just thought that this might be a better transition into business that you’d be interested in, and you’d be able to leverage your work experience/education more in the application.

I think you should start looking at more ways to leverage your lab skills to land a job that is more oriented towards what you like.

For instance, are there analysts positions that people might have for you?
