Although I was recently considering retaking Math 2 for the Jan SAT, I decided it might be pretty pointless considering I got pretty close to 800 the last time I took it (770). Should I retake Math 2 or consider taking biology? I already took AP Bio w/ a 5, but simply didn't take the sat exam. Any help is appreciated.

. .

If you got a 5 on the AP Bio, you would probably be able to score pretty high on the SAT II (if you remember things from last year). However, the 770 is great so unless you need a second subject test, I wouldn’t bother testing at all.

Thanks for the help, thunder1, can I get any more opinions?

I agree with thunder. If you need a second subject test, take a different one. It makes you look a lot more well rounded.

I would like to know too.

I’d highly recommend taking the Biology SAT, I’ve only had CP Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and I’m currently in AP Biology and I scored a 760. The concepts aren’t very deep, although there seems to be a different type of analytic method in comparison with AP questions. Regardless, since you received a 5 on the AP Biology exam I’d expect you to score 750+ easily on the SAT test. Just look up the format, and become accustomed to it. Your Math II score seems good enough for any school; trying for an 800 seems more like an ego boost than anything. ;)

I would actually retake Math II if I were you. A 770 looks great on paper, but the curve for Math II is so generous that it kind of devalues any score below 800. For top schools, 780-800 is usually OK for Math II, but 800 is of course preferable. Also, you are probably aware that you can miss 5-7 questions on the test and pull an 800, so you’d have a good chance of doing so if you retook. Just my thoughts.

Retake Math II if you have time, otherwise don’t worry about it. Do take SAT II Bio, and if you’re also taking AP Chem and AP Physics at your school, do those too. SAT II Chem and Physics are pretty easy (much easier than Bio imo).

Can you do both? You can take up to three per test day.

I actually advise against taking 3 subjects in one test day because you’ll be tired by the start of the 3rd exam. But give it a go if you think you’ll last :)
