I took IB SL biology this past year (my junior year of high school) and got a 6 on the IB test. I also took the SAT Subject Test in Bio M and got a 720. I know a 720 is not within the middle 50% of students admitted to MIT, but I was wondering if admissions counselors will see that I got a 6 on the IB test and know that the IB curriculum doesn’t prepare you for the SAT Subject Tests as well as the AP curriculum?
SAT Subject Tests do not count as much as you think they do (i.e. they won’t make or break your admission). I don’t think anyone can answer your question - unless they are a member of the MIT Admissions Committee. Nonetheless, good luck with the application!
IB Students do study separately for the SAT subject exams, but I agree that MIT is not stressing test scores very much lately. What you do in the summers, whether you submit an optional portfolio, how well you interview, and how your write about yourself, and your recommendations matter much more than the Biology test score. A 720 is still a good score as well, so don’t stress about it, but focus more on can you submit an optional portfolio and what questions are you going to ask your MIT Educational Counselor during your fall interview?
