Biology Subject Test help!!

So i need some advice for this and i really hope you guys will be able to help me. I took honors biology last year and im going to be a sophmore in the fall. I had no clue i had to take subject tests untill it was already too late to register for the june one. So now im hoping to take it in October but seriously im freaking out.
This will be the first SAT subject test i will have taken and i really really want to do good so i would really appreaciate any advice. I have the Barron's book but after seeing some discussions on previous Biology Sat tests, i feel like it wont have enough information to get me a really good score. I mean like some of the questions are so random. Im really hoping that the test wont be too hard because i really want 750+ and im willing to study alot for it. Id appreciate any advice anyone would be willing to give to help me out on what i should study, what books i should get and what they did to prepare for the test
Thanks so much!

over this summer I’d suggest going thru your entire book, highlighting the important pages and studying them. Do as many practice tests as possible, there are some on sparknotes.com that are great for practice if you already did your barrons ones.

Also, if you REALLY want to do good, finish your barrons book, do sparknotes tests, and then go thru ANOTHER test prep book like Kaplan. then you will probably easily be prepared for a 750+.

What i have been doing was reading and really trying to comprehend what Barrons was saying. I read through it about once a week. Im also going to be getting probably Princetons because i have heard good review on that and read them both. I was also wondering if going to a prep class would also help because my parents feel since it is my first time taking such a test, it would be benificial for me to have someone who can answer any questions i have and guide me through the work. Is this a good idea? Also is there any parts that i should really focus on, btw i havent decided on E or M yet. Any ideas?

I was in a worse position than you. I didn’t have prior knowledge with Biology.

Things you need: PR and Barrons SAT Subject test in Biology.
Read over them, highlight, and read them again until they are etched in your brain.

Doing that got me a 770 in Biology E.

For which one you should do, see which one you get more right on and go with that one. For me, I started with Biology M, but after doing all 100 questions, I switched to E because it seemed easier (for that test).

So yeah, personal preference.

Wow I was in the same situation as you when I was a pre-sophomore kid. First of all, Barron’s is much harder than the test so don’t be discouraged. Usually, the rule of thumb for all Barron books is that it is harder than the actual thing. They like to OVER prepare you. I have the Barron’s and Princeton Review book. The Princeton Review book goes through everything in much more detail, thus giving you knowledge on things honors biology have not covered. As far as my honors course was concerned, it didn’t cover important phyla groups and the human anatomy. Those are all about memorization so make sure you go through each chapter and memorize memorize memorize.
You shouldn’t take a class mostly because this is a cheap test and you CAN retake it if you didn’t do well. Obviously, if you don’t do well this time, take AP Bio in sophomore or junior year and take it again. You’ll get a better score. Personally, the ecology is easier because it’s a lot about memorization and less about concepts. However, it’s really a personal preference.

The thing is that there is a sequence in my school so i wouldnt be able to take ap bio until senior year
and thats too late to send to colleges
and some colleges dont accept score choice so they would be able to see my bad score
do you believe two months of dedicated studying of those two books could get me the score im aiming for
and thanks so much for your replies it means alot to me =)

It took me a week and a half. Two months is an ample amount of time.

seriously only a week and a half?
and you had no knowledge in biology before
thats amazing i wish i could do that

There is no way that could happen, unless he/she was very lucky or just out of this world in terms of memorization. A 770 is years of memorization and familiarity of the material, no one can pull off a near perfect score with a week of study, without being very familiar with the material.

If you definitely make an effort to study your Barrons and (possibly) PR, you’ll be fine. You can watch Khan Academy and Bozeman Biology videos on Youtube, too. Those help A LOT. And maybe keep yourself refreshed on all topics by reviewing vocab on Quizlet (online flashcard site, the savior for all nerds like you and me).
