Cal’s pre reqs for psych majors include taking two biological sciences, one of which must be a course with an emphasis on neuroscience.
From assist-
“BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES: Two courses
NOTES: Students are still responsible for completing another Biological Science course with a Neuroscience emphasis to satisfy this requirement”
Despite the fact that my cc or any other cc in my county doesn’t offer an equivalent course, I heard that UCB admissions are especially unforgiving when it comes to incomplete pre reqs regardless if it was offered or not. Should I consider applying as my backup major (sociology), or is this a problem with most psych CCC transfers? Has anyone actually completed the biological neuroscience component at their CCC?
What about behavioral neuroscience? Also goes by the name of biological psychology, physiological psychology, psychobiology, et cetera.
That class is offered at most community colleges, at least in my area.
@falltransfer1 My cc offers intro to physiological psychology- that’s the closest course to the ones you’ve mentioned. However, it doesn’t show up on assist as an equivalent course. Should I just submit it to an advisor in the psych department at Berkeley to see if it satisfies the req?
I think that’s a great idea. For what it’s worth I can’t see any reason it won’t fulfill the requirement, since it’s a neuroscience course designed specifically for your major. But universities can be weird so it’s always a good idea to triple check that your classes transfer… Nothing worse than realizing you wasted your time with a class you didn’t need… been there before. Good luck getting into Berkeley!
@falltransfer1 Thank you so much! I really appreciate it
@falltransfer1 the problem I see is that, although your CC offers those types of courses, Berkeley may not accept them as per their articulation agreements. I am in the eczact same situation with the exact same dilemma as OP. I have courses offered at my CC called “Biological Psychology” and “Anatomy and Physiology”. These courses seem like they would fulfill the Biological Sciences requirement, but I am not so sure, since they don’t show up as articulated on assist.org
Furthermore, notice how on assist.org, there are two categories of: “TAKE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING” under the “BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES: Two courses” requirement. I have a few courses that fulfill the first category, but not the second category.
If there is someone who knows more about this, or can clear up on what is really being said in this subsection for requirements, I’d be grateful.
Also, @kneesbees , did you get any word back after talking to that Berkeley advisor about the course you want to articulate, to see if it satisfies the requirement?
@Mezona Actually, yes! I emailed the psychology advising department at Berkeley and they confirmed that physiological psychology at my school would fulfill the requirement. I advise that you do the same and email them as well (psychsso@berkeley.edu)- explain your situation and include a syllabus of the course. Good luck!
