Biology

What's the best school for biology?

I want to go into biotechnology, things like researching cures for diseases, health and technological innovations by biological means, and biocomputation, using DNA to store information and using chemical processes to carry out calculations.

What is the best degree that would allow me to take part in a career in which I would be able to work for companies offering these challenges? Would it just be a general degree in Biology?

tryout biomedical engineering. a biology major is generally a one way path towards med school or academia.

You also might want to check out applied science, a major many schools are beginning to offer (UNC, for example).

Genetics/genomics would also be possible options.

i'd research into just plain biology majors, because a lot of times they don't get into the biotechnology side at all, they focus on the molecular/cellular or evolution side of biology. BME is probably not what you want exactly, but the programs from school to school differ, so I don't want to generalize. Genetics could be a great major though
