Biomed. Engineering computer?

whats a good computer to have for bme? ive heard from people that go to the school that most have pc as compared to macs in the eng. school, but i have also heard that a lot of people majoring in bme have macs. For me price isn't that much of an issue- anything under 2k.

I've been doing some research the past couple of weeks after intel released their montevina chipsets and came to the conclusion that either a sony fw, hp dv5t, or the new lenovo thinkpad t400/t500 series once they are released on tuesday. However, since the macs won't be updated until sept. 16 the earliest, which is when i move in, if i get a mac, it would have to be the upper end white macbook. or even a dell, though i have heard of overheating problems in their inspiron line.

Mainly what would last better for upwards of four years a mac or a pc? and if pc which brand because i have little experience in laptops of any kind.

bump..........

rule out Sony and Dell Inspiron, for starters.

if you want a Mac, just wait and buy the new one. you'll live perfectly fine without your own computer for a week. alternatively, buy the lower-end 15" MBP. they're more durable than Macbooks and still fit in your price range.

The Thinkpads are the most likely to last for more than 4 years. The other ones will probably last for ~3 years.

You might look at the Dell XPS line which is their high-end consumer line.

I have three Dell Inspiron laptop from around 2000, 2001 and 2003 and an XPS M1330. The M1330 is sturdier and comes with much more standard equipment. The older inspirons all still work though.

ok, so...my school starts on the 23rd...of august, and i already bought the black macbook. will that suffice?

yes, but anyone with a blackbook is a pretentious prick.

um...okay?
