biomedical engineering and premed???

I heard most of premed students major in biomedical engineers, is it true?
Please explain if you know why or why not.

Not true.

You can major in anything and go to med school. There are some prescribed classes such as calculus and organic chamistry that you must take but other than that, you can choose what you like. I’ve worked with Honors students for more than 15 years and have had 100s go to med school and while I’d say the most popular majors for my pre-meds have been biochemistry, genetics, biological sciences and psychology, I’ve had students major in many engineering fields, as well as English, Spanish and Philosophy and get into great med schools.

Inthebiz,

Thank you for the information.

There are few biomed majors so the claim is patently false. Biomed is a growing field. It is more an engineering discipline than medical.

The question is somewhat funny because the typical is, “I’m admitted to x biomed program and I’m worried that my grades will be too low if I also do pre-med.”

I think the #1 pre-med major is Biology. However, that’s not necessary. There’s a list somewhere of various majors and their success rate for admissions to med school.
