Does anyone know if all the JHU interviews have gone out? In previous years they haven’t notified until early Feb., and their interview dates are in mid March.

Thanks uneoao. I got the offer from NW on Jan 14th. I wasn’t really expecting to hear from anyone until early Feb. It was a pleasant surprise. I think Northwestern breaks their admissions into 5 or so sub-committees. They may each send out decisions separately. The email I received came from the professor I was interested in working with not the department.

Got an invite to Stanford Bioengineering today, via email. The message says that I should have gotten a call from them already, but I haven’t received one.

Also applied to Berkeley/UCSF (Bioengineering), MIT (CSBi), and Harvard (Systems Bio). Got officially denied by MIT last week; I assume the others are to follow, given that invites have been sent.

Stats:
Bioengineering major, 3.45 GPA (3.25 in-major)
GRE 1600/5.0
1 paper (4th author), 2 posters (2nd and 1st author)
Incomplete application - only managed two letters.

ooo congrats bluerose67! just a question… was your app to stanford incomplete also? like, schools read incomplete apps and invite students for an interview?

uneoao, yes, they were all incomplete. Never got the third letter, and the second was over five weeks late…both of these from my undergrad research supervisors, so replacing them would have looked bad. I had pretty much given up on this admissions cycle.

I don’t think most schools read incomplete applications. I only got one interview, despite having reasonable stats…but then, I aimed high.

As for Stanford, I suspect I had help getting my file into the “to read” pile - one of those former research supervisors moved there, and he wants to recruit me. (The whole five-weeks-late thing…NOT improving his chances. Or maybe it is, if I can’t get in anywhere else.)

So my profile has a big special-case flag on it, for better or worse. I just really hope I don’t have to go through this again. =/

@blueroses67 “Got an invite to Stanford Bioengineering today, via email. The message says that I should have gotten a call from them already, but I haven’t received one.”

Me too. I got a call from the professor though.

I applied for PhD in Bioengineering at Duke, Berkeley, Columbia, Cornell and U.Washington… Got a reject from Washington already, stating they have insufficient funds to support a new PhD student :(… Keeping my fingers crossed for other univs… I’m really getting nervous to see even Duke and Berkeley are sending out interview invites… buhu…
Has anyone else received calls from these univs… ??

omg someone got invited to upenn today!!!
and cornell also!! they got invitation on monday and tuesday!!
I got an email from Cornell today, but it was only that my application is complete…

@Shaolin… Congrats man… Are u an international applicant or US ? Coz I was just wondering if they are rolling out American student’s decisions first…

@Shaolin… Is it any better to mail UCB people reg the decision on our application… Although the online staus check says its still in process ? Considering the fact that some ppl have got their decisions?? :s

I phoned Cornell admission officers on Monday and they said that they have 300+ over applications this year and still in the middle of sorting the applications out (since the deadline is 15 Jan). I received the same email on Monday. Fingers crossing too…

@ uneaao
According to UPenn’s Bioeng website invites were sent out throughout Late Jan-Mid Feb in 2009. They also stated that they cannot be encouraging if you do not get a response by Feb 15th :(. I am assuming that this might be somewhat similar for this year.

@ Thanks, itsaan I am a US applicant. I called the grad school admissions at UCB and was told something would be sent out at the end of the month so… tomorrow if not early next week?

@hhhcce yea that’s what the professor there told me… but i saw two posts of admission! hopefully we’ll hear some good news also…!!

@springchicken, yea I saw that also… I hope I’ll get an email (interview invitation of course! Or rather, if i got rejected I’d rather know that asap also) from them soon! I hate waiting so much

@worriedbiomed, I don’t know… I couldn’t really tell from the gradcafe website. There was only one entry for UPenn BioE though. springchicken posted the link on his/her previous post…
