Biomedical engineering, more bang for your buck.

I have a question, does a major in biomedical engineering give more bang for yor buck over other life science programs of study? I ask this because I have 2 cousins who are involved with the military ( one was a marine), they only have bachleors degrees in biomedical engineering, yet they make over 80,000 a year at Walter Reed. Do employers look more highly at someone with a degree in biomedical engineering then plain old biology?

And whats the new up and coming field?

I think a new up and coming field is a hybrid field between biomedical engineering and nanotechnology, e.g. new ways to deliver medicines or fight cancer,
