Lately I've been trying to decide what I want to major in in college. For the longest time I wanted to be a pharmacist, but I've just recently been considering biomedical engineering as well. They both interest me. I've taken more high school courses to prepare me for pharmacy and would probably be better at it rather than BME. Although, BME seems more interesting than pharmacy, but I haven't taken a single engineering course at school so I'm not sure if I would enjoy it. Plus, I've also heard some bad things about becoming a pharmacist. Any opinions would be appreciated!

Why not do both?

Both? Sounds like a great way to have a life time of debt.

I want to ask you, does pharmacy interest you or pharmacology? Whilst, similar they aren’t the same and when one says pharmacy, they really mean pharmacology. Either way though, BME would give you the pre reqs courses to take the pcats, the most important being ochem.

What’s interesting is both fields are high risk. Pharmacists are going through a rough patch, but the state of BME isn’t any better on the B.S. level. If you want to do pharamacy, do it, but don’t do BME, your gpa may be too low to get into a good school. BME has a lot of unit requirements and each class has more potential to ruin a good gpa.

There really are no bad pharmacy schools. No one hiring will care about anything more than whether or not you have a valid state license.

As @ninjex said, many people confuse pharmacology with pharmacy. Make sure you know the difference.

Good luck.
