Biomedical Engineering + Pre Dent

At GaTech.

I'm going to study BME this Fall, and I still have no idea what kind of classes I'm going to have. A lot of people have told me that it's a very difficult major and many students end up dropping out. Such comments made me have doubts about whether I should do Pre Dent or not, seeing that I have to do a lot of extra curriculars and such (hence making BME even harder).

Either way, I'm going to start as BME + Pre Dent and see how it goes.

Can anyone give me some insight on what BME is like (like all I know is that it's about making machines/instruments used in hospitals)? How college life with BME is like? And how can I get 'ready' for the courseload during the summer before college starts?

I'm getting quite nervous and don't know what to do, please give me some advice! Thanks!

I was a BME major for a very small time but I'll throw in my 2 cents.

BME is essentially a hybrid ME/ChemE and PreMed curriculum on crack. You will take ALL the premed/predent/prevet requirements and beyond, which might be overkill if you are specifically trying to go predent.

BME design technology that are at the crossroads for Doctors and engineers. It can vary from macroscopic devices such as prosthetics and tissue scaffolds, to microscopic medicine delivery vectors or glucose sensors.

BME, like most engineering majors, will be tough and since you are a GATech, I hear it will be even tougher. One thing to think about is that it'll be quite hard to maintain a strong GPA that is required for dental/medical school--not impossible but it'll be tough.

IF you must brush up on coursework before the summer, make sure you are familar with your chemistry, biology and basic calculus. However, I'd suggest that you relax and enjoy your summer before Tech.
