While applying at UCI, our daughter put BME pre med as first choice and Biological science as the second option. The main reason being of course the word pre med. Now that she actually got admitted into this program, the question that has been on our minds has been if this is the right program for her. Her interest is more towards premed and Biomed and not so much into engineering. It does look like that this program has been there for a while. Can someone with experience and/or understanding comment on the the program? Thank you very much.
I’m a current BME (non pre-med) senior. We take mostly the same classes, except they take a couple extra bio classes to fulfill the medical school requirements. I believe they don’t take circuits and the second class in the molecular engineering series (not positive). She will still have to take the entire physics series, math series, basic coding (matlab), and solidworks. Calculus and differential equations are used in many classes, so anyone weak at math should steer clear.
Some classes are fascinating; some are dry and depressing. She should choose another major if she wants to go to med school. Nobody has a good GPA in this program. Most of us won’t even be eligible for many grad schools.
Thanks @Raaqar . That is very helpful.
