Hey, I noticed that the program is capped at 20 now. Is there any biomedical engineer at Tufts who can elaborate on the difficulty level of getting into the program? And -supposedly- one does not make it into the program, what backup program is good?

I'm currently afraid of applying due to this limit. Thanks.

I’m not sure about the GPA, since my high school does not use a GPA system (I’m an international student). My SAT is in the 2300 region. I did well in science subjects at my school - all in the 90s region. However, I know that university courses will be very different from high school, especially since mine does not follow an American curriculum.

This is why I want to know the bulk of workload and the level of competitiveness. Sorry if this has been asked numerous times.

Sorry for double posting. I forgot to add my ECs, which are ridiculously embarrassing compared to other applicants. I mostly have theater projects, and I tutored people.
My SAT subjects for Chemistry and Math II are 800 and 790.

(P.S. Catria, your biography made me laugh. In a good way.)

One other thought… although 20 students doesn’t sound like much, the entire engineering school is just 200 students per class, which makes the BME program a full 10% of the school - alongside 14 other degree options.

So Tufts isn’t like some other schools that offer BiomedE which you might have a chance to get into.

If you applied at McGill or Polytechnique, both of which you might have a chance to get into even for BiomedE, for instance, declaration of major occurs at the time of application.

Yeah. I know that Tufts reviews our performance in the first semester for BME, and I AM applying to other schools that allow students to declare their majors when applying. (though my college choices are quite ridiculous for my stats)

I’m just really interested in Tufts. Dan once said that the BME program was capped to give more meaningful research opportunities for the students. Since I really want to get involved, Tufts just catches my eye. Moreover, it’s in Boston and I like the relatively small class size.

Catria, thanks for the suggestions. I’m not sure if I want to go to Canada, though.
