Hi, I am a student starting at Texas A&M this fall, and I was admitted into the Biomedical sciences major, but looking and searching the web I've found that that BS degree doesn't give me too many job opportunities, but I was thinking of doing a Ms or a Phd in biomedical sciences later on. But I am concerned with finding job with the BS degree, so looking for some other majors I found biomedical engineering, that seems to me like an awesome major, and because it's an engineering it gives more opportunities than a science degree. But I am worried that the math will be too much for me, and it seems that in A&M the biomedE curriculum doesn't include biology. Could this be a good major for me? even though I prefered biology over math during HS? I would consider my self an average student with math. Please could someone help me? Thanks

From what I understand, Biomedical Engineering is something best studied at the graduate level, as it is too specialized to be able to get a job with it with just a BS. If you’re looking for something that can give you a job right out of undergrad but still keep the doors open for you to pursue Biomedical science graduate study in the future I would go for chemical or biochemical engineering.

To be honest, I would never get a BME BS unless I wanted to go into med school or I love researching molecules and engineering them. I really wanted to do BME when I first got into college. After extensive research ( 11 months asking profs, department heads, advisers, upperclassmen) I found that BME is no good. I went with ME and I tell you what. I am working with one of the best Medical Device Companies in the world now. And, they don’t even recruit BME’s from undergrad, they only take grad BMEs. Companies nowadays don’t take you in because of your degree. They take you in because of your passion. So, it should not matter that much what you study. Id go with an ME or EE though.

Btw, if you got into A&M Biomed, your math skills are good enough.

Thanks for your fast responses! very helpful
