i am currently at umass-amherst and am interested in biomedical engineering. i recently got accepted into the program at boston university and now have to decide whether or not to transfer.

i know that bu has a good program in that department, but is it worth paying 40K when i can go to umass for 15K. umass does not have biomedical engineering as a major, but i would plan on taking a combination of mechanical engineering and biology classes.

my goal is to go to graduate school for biomedical engineering anyway, so does it really matter which school i go to for undergrad? i would also be losing some credits if i transfer to bu and would have to take an extra year there.

i dont taking up mech engg and a couple of classes would equal to biomed engg.. but u need to consider the financial aspects. u can check out with any of the professors

I recommend you call JHU, Duke and MIT. Talk to the someone in Gaduate School Admissions or someone in the BioMed Eng. department and ask them if you will be at a disadvantage if you stick with UMass.

Are you a MA resident? If so, look at the UConn program. There is a tuition deal with UConn since Biomed is not offered in MA. You would pay 50% more than the CT instate tuition to go to UConn.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to do ME and take some bio classes. I'm a grad student in BME at BU right now and it seems like a lot of my classmates weren't BME for undergrad. I think a solid engineering background with interest in bio/BME should be good enough to get you into a BME grad program. So if you know you definitely want to go to grad school - and are happy with the engineering education you're getting - you're probably fine at Umass. BME isn't large enough yet for admissions to expect aplicants to have studied it (and honestly, it might not necessarily be desired either, depending on your research for your graduate degree).

hi laurezer
oh u are a grad student in boston university . that's great . what do u think about the program in new jersy institute of technology ? any idea ? i am currently a student from india and applied to biomed department over there . i am given a partial tuition waiver of 2000$ per semester. if u know about biomed program in njit ,let me know .
