Biomedical engineering with coops, internships

Looking for colleges with biomedical engineering, that offer coops or internship programs.

Looking to study biomedical engineering as a career, not as a stepping stone to medical school

Also want a school with other engineering majors, such as computer, mechanical, in case don't like bme and want to switch

Prefer a college with somewhat geographically diverse population, not a commuter college, where housing is available to all students

Stats: 2100 SAT, 31 ACT, Commended NM, borderline NMS, Class of 2010

White male, middle class

Thanks for any recommendations!

UCSD sould like a good fit. It’s not the greatest school for social life but it would be impossible to beat for internships and industry involvement. SD has become the biotech capital of the world.

Caution, if you need financial aid this will probably not work. Very little aid for OOS students and a $45K price tag if you’re OOS.

Any more recs?

I am not an expert but after doing some research, the following schools have extensive coop program and a decent biomed program:

Case Western
Drexel

Ga Tech is it

If it matters:

Thanks for the list. Would son’s stats fit into these top schools?

Earlier poster mentioned UCSD, but since that’s near the top, wonder if son would get in.

Would have to qualify for merit scholarship as well, since not going to be able to pay full 45K, for sure, and doubt would qualify for need based aid.

Also, prestige is not important to us. Just being able to get a job when he graduates is most important. Not applying to medical school.

You don’t give us grades so it’s hard to say. With strong grades he would get into UCSD but almost no chance for merit aid being OOS and wanting their most popular major.

BU may be a good shot with some money if grades are up there.

On the job front, with BME, more education would be needed for the best jobs.

I would definitely recommend checking out Case Western (it’s where I’m going this fall, so maybe I’m biased).
