Biomedical engineering

Should I dive straight into biomed (the biochemistry aspect, although I may consider the biomechanics part) or should I go to chemical (second choice is mechanical) engineering first and then specialize later on? Biomed is fairly new in Canada and I'm not sure about the job outlook, although I think that they will be in demand soon, just like all other medical-related professions.

...really? Biomedical engineering is new? Hunh. My dad did an ABD PhD in biomed engineering back in the 70's, so all this discussion of biomed eng being a newfangled degree is pretty foreign to me. Not doubting it, it's just not something that I'd ever thought of as being 'new'.

I'm talking about an undergrad degree. Furthermore, I could not find any job with the title "biomedical engineering" in government websites with information regarding biomedical engineer. And I'm talking about Canada, not the US.

No, that's cool... I believe you... I just thought biomed eng was a bigger deal than I guess it actually is.

Biomed is much harder to get a job without an advanced degree versus the "regular" engineering majors
