Biomedical Engineering?

Hi! I’m a persian SoCal girl interested in applying to Cal States and UC’s for biomedical engineering (possibly pre-med).

Here’s some info about me:
UC GPA: 3.95 not too great, I know:(
New SAT: 1440 (710 reading/writing, 730 math)
I’ve taken 9 AP classes (Ap Lang/Lit, Apush/European History, Ap Bio, Ap Gov, Ap Calc AB, Ap Stats, AP Psych)
So far, I’ve gotten a 3 on the Bio exam (did not study…at all), 4’s in Calc AB and USH, and a 5 in Lang.

*May or may not take SAT II Math2 in a couple weeks. I know I really should, but I don’t want to score low. Considering taking Biology E or M instead.

EC: Mock trial 4 years, captain for 2; mental health club president 3 years; Senator’s Leadership Volunteering Program; Engineering internship for Caltrans; regional oratory scholarship winner

Another huge deficiency is that I didn’t take physics in high school. I thought I’d be majoring in polisci until a few months ago, and by then it was too late to add that class. Should I explain this in my apps?
I know I’m not the strongest applicant for such an impacted field, but even going to Long Beach would be fine. I would love to attend UCI but I’m pretty realistic and know I may not be accepted because of not taking physics/the math2 SAT.

I think you have a good chance at UCI and Cal Poly SLO. You have my exact same SAT score btw. Not sure about other UCs

SLO would be a Low Reach since the average GPA for Engineering is 4.17 although Test scores are on target. BME is a very competitive major for the UC’s and SLO.

CSULB is a Match.

Freshman admits with UC GPA if 3.80-4.19
UCB: 12%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 49%
UCD: 52%
UCI: 57%
UCSC: 83%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 92%

UM/UCR/UCSC are your best bets. UCI is also possible. UCD and UCSB could go either way (50/50).
You should also consider SDSU, Cal Poly Pomona and SJSU.

Good Luck

With a compelling essay, UCI could happen. SLO, probably not, but certainly worth a try.

Be sure to also apply elsewhere. UCSC, UCR and SDSU are all worth a look.
