Biomedical Engineering

I’m planning to apply next year, and I was wondering if anyone had any information on how competitive this particular field is for admission? I plan to apply early decision.

I guess this is still going into first year engineering, which engineering will be very competitive. You can always put a non-engineering major as your second choice and transfer later.

Good Luck

What we liked about NCSU, they don’t try to BS when you as a direct question. One of my sons applied to a BME Major, and he was basically told, when he asked about the average student profile in BME, "As close to a 4.0 (UW) as possible, Calculus, “A"s in Math and Science, 1450+ SAT, 33+ ACT”. This was last spring.

You’re applying into the first year engineering program overall not specific intents yet; if it helps I was admitted with a 34 ACT, 4.8 weighted, top 5% of my high school class, and I had a high AP math/science course rigor.

My son was admitted BME into both NCSU and Chapel Hill, 1510/35/4.0/5.08, with plenty of ECs. Ranked in the top 3% of his HS.

My son was admitted to both UNC and NCSU with the intent to major in Biomedical Engineering. Neither direct admit into Biomedical. You have to apply after you finish certain prerequisite course. They each have 80 spots that are pretty competitive to get. NCSU seems to be more straightforward with the acceptance policy where UNC uses a more “eclectic” approach with essay requirements on top of GPA.
