How intense is the freshmen curriculum for BME??? I am really interested in it but i hear it is alot of stress. Are there oppritunities for help and assistance with class to help with some of the stress????

I'm a current BME sophomore- the curriculum is difficult, but so is the field. Freshman year you do take a lot, but there is a ton of support- free tutoring from upperclassmen, help sessions, etc. You also get to meet a lot of people in your major the first semester, and there are generally 80 or so. A lot of people get together and study. BME is the reason why I'm here, and I'm convinced this school is the best for me.

All the best

how different are the BME classes than the normal pre-med requirements, lets say for a bio major? Also, what exactly makes BME more challenging? the course load, classes, etc.?

um, i'm a chem who was almost bme. the bme classes meet the pre med requirements so by majoring in bme you fufill all the pre med requirements without any additional classes. however its stressful b/c there is little room for "fun" classes, bme and cheme take the same classes freshmen year except for intro to bme (we take modern technological challenges instead) but its a lot of mth and science, chem, physics, and calc. so you don't get any sort of break from labs or that part of the brain. its a good curriculum though, i know a lot of people who think that its a lot of work and hard but really enjoyable.

how hard is Intro to BME????

i'm not a bme so i didnt take the class so i can't say honsetly. but from talking to people about it, its a tough class. the style is lecture with a variety of different lecturers who are in the field or research in some capacity. they also have problem sets and a paper, i know people who hate this class and who love it but everyone thinks its difficult. however as i understand it many people find it very interesting and decide to stick to bme because of it.

I agree with amu521. Just from friends who are BME, I hear the intro class is difficult but people still enjoy it. To say the truth, I think BME will be hard anywhere because science and math courses are never a piece of pie. But there is lots of help at WashU and your peers will be friendly. Lastly, from what I hear (I wasn't aware of this) WashU has one of the nation's top BME programs. I heard a lecture given by one of the founders or leaders of the program; indeed, some people are very amazing.

What scope Biomed engineering will have 5 years from now...is it more of engineering or medical oriented...

ok i am really confused...BME is going to take five years from now on???

haha i hope not...i think he's just talking about the field in general. I dunno my dad asks that question all the time. How will (so and so field) in the next 5 or 10 years?

ok i feel stupid now

haha no worries, we're into washu remember!

So... What if we're not sure about our major yet? Is it possible/feasible to switch into BME or ChemE sophomore year?
