I read most of the threads on biomedical engineering, including the ones at JHU interactive. However, I was wondering, if I self-study AP Biology, and get a 5, will it carry the same weight if I took the class? A lot of my friends say it's relatively easy to study on your own, and if that is so, I would rather just do so and take another course, say AP Physics B, because I want to major in BME.

Just so you know, Hopkins does not grant credit for Physics B. But personally, I think self-studying is more impressive since it shows commitment, drive, and will-power.

“I self-study AP Biology, and get a 5”

Trust me it’s not the easiest thing to self study.

I was away from my school first semester Junior year, and returned at the end of January. 3.5 months of the class, where I didn’t do SQUAT… and some basic self study yielded a 4.

Yeah I self-studied it too and got a 5. Debating on whether or not I should use the credit or not (I’m an incoming freshmen).

Any thoughts?

@skatj: Incoming freshmen to high school or college?
