Yeah, it's really not a big deal to have a late letter, which recommenders all know and abuse. (Seriously, you have never met a bigger deadline-disregarder than my PI. He firmly believes that all deadlines are meant to be broken, and he's right, because the entire academic system is full of deadline-benders like him.)

You have about a month of leeway -- schools with early December deadlines will want all of your letters by approximately early January.

Does this leeway extend to transcripts as well? I am dealing with registrar offices at three schools on the sending side and eight on the receiving side, and I have had just one disaster after another.

My impression is that self-reported transcripts and GREs are sufficient for file review? But official confirmation is required later on, is this true? anyone?

^That was true for me with regard to GRE scores -- I got an interview offer that was contingent upon ETS getting its act together and actually sending my scores.

In general, there's leeway with everything, and programs are pretty understanding about the difficulty of herding all of the pieces of the application into the right place at the right time.

I heard back from three schools in mid to late December, and one school in mid January. All of these schools accepted me, and the ones I heard from after that all rejected me (but this is not necessarily always the case). I know how you guys are feeling; the times I spent waiting to hear back from schools made me really anxious! Good luck to you all. If anyone ends up at UTSW or interviews there, let me know!

I heard back from most of the schools that I was accepted to in January. So don't worry if you don't hear back in December, I only heard from one by that time and most of us were biting our nails into late January.

I only heard from one school before january, most of my interview invitations came in the middle of january, and one came in february. So I wouldn't be too worried.

They were Baylor and UT Southwestern respectively. Here is the list of the ones that I know invite people before the end of the year (most also invite in January too):
UT Southwestern
Baylor
NYU
Wash U.

I know there are others since I met a kid with 6 Nov/Dec invites, but I do not know the others. I heard from 5 others in Jan/Feb. I would not worry if you do not hear back before the end of the year. Early invites probably involve some luck, since the schools have a short time to pull together your app and to review it.

I was told UNC will start meeting the first week of December and UMich meets Dec. 18. I didn't know I would feel so anxious during the wait period. MIT is the only school that doesn't require interviews so I expect to hear back from them around February. I just want to hear backkkkk! :)

To those that applied last year, how were the interviews? What were they like?

Interviews are an interesting cross between pure recruitment and pure applicant evaluation. As such, they're pretty fun and only occasionally nerve-wracking.

I was thinking UNC was one that offered Dec invites, but I could not remember for sure. I would not worry too much if you do not hear from Michigan and UNC until the first of the year, since things happen. I know a lot of people that got interviews at those two places in January.

UNC lost my app until early Feb last year, and I know people whos app was lost entirely. They filled up most of the dates by the time they found my app, but they bent over backwards to get me there on a date that worked for me.

Again I would not stress over it until you have not heard from them in Feb.

I took the GRE back in September and requested that the scores be sent to 4 schools... should I resend those scores just in case, or should I wait until after I submit the apps (at the end of this week) to see if they already have it? I know that because none of my apps are complete yet, nothing that the schools have already been sent could possibly show up anywhere...

What is the general policy on late transcripts and score reports, if this turns out to be my unfortunate case? Will a school really consider your application incomplete and never review it?

What exactly is your question? Do you know for sure that they do not have your GRE scores? I would first call the school to see if they had it or not. Many schools also have an online checklist system.

If they have, indeed, not received your reports I would call ETS 1-866-387-8602. They messed up sending my scores too and they re-sent them (free of charge).

I would like to ask how to check if schools receive GRE scores and transcript after I submit the online application?

I'm a low-tech person, and trying to find where I can view this information online. Please shed me some light. Most of schools I am apllying use "embark" or "applyyourself" portal websites. Or I can only email/call graduate schools/programs to get updated? Thanks.

You can send emails but they have been ignoring mine. Alternatively, you can take the original low tech solution and call. Be prepared to be passed back and forth between department and grad school admissions office though. Also, don't fall for the old "let me take down your information and give the message to someone" routine. The message gets thrown in the trash before anybody sees it.

If anybody from an admissions office is reading this, I am just blowing off steam. And if Julie from a certain Texas University is reading this, you know who you are.

@ diane1987 - columbia pharmacology interviews are held on two fridays in early february/march, with you meeting ~6 professors between two sessions. friday night is dinner hosted by the department's students (i think they number <20 in all) with drinks afterward (no faculty) and saturday is entirely recruitment activities held in conjunction with the other departments of the health sciences PhD programs. i flew in on a thursday and left on sunday morning ... not much choice when coming from california :)
(they got back to me re: interviews in early january)

I recently received GRE score reports from ETS, and I noticed that the percentile score on my subject test is different from the score I received long ago after I just wrote the test. The difference is -1, now, all of my self-reported GRE scores on my applications were based on my old score report, but all the schools will now see a discrepancy when they try to match it against my latest score report, what should I do at this point? Should I contact each school to inform them about this? I'm just afraid that the ADCOM would think I'm cheating.
