Biopharmaceutical Sciences

What are some colleges offer Biopharmaceutical sciences/Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmaceutical Management for undergrads? The only schools I know that offer these majors for undergrads are the University of Illinois-Chicago and the University of Buffalo. Thank you!

North Carolina State University has a new Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center. NCSU is offering an undergraduate minor and graduate degrees in this field. NCSU also offers related undergraduate degrees.

We went on a short tour of the facility a couple of months ago. Apparently it’s one of only 3 like it in the world (going on memory - not 100% positive on that statistic). They claim a 100% placement rate of students who complete the undergrad minor. Lots of information through the above link.

I think most pharmaceutical science managers are Chemists and Biochemists that got an MBA.

First off that undergrad is way to specific to be viable. Bio pharmaceuticals focuses on protein biochemistry (proteins), molecular biology, and some cellular biology. I fail to see how an undergrad program can get you there. That is more an Undergrad major in Biochem with an MS in biopharmaceuticals. Before you can even begin to study biopharmaceuticals, you need general chem, general Biology, analytical chemistry, cellular biology, microbiology, organic chemistry, then biochemistry and molecular biology.

As I stated in another thread, you can’t study proteins and nucleic acids without first going through organic chemistry and understanding Chirality, carbon carbon double bonds, functional groups, various reactions and mechanisms, etc.

I’m going to NC State in the fall. The Biopharmaceutical Sciences major there is is called Bioprocessing. I’m doing that major, you get to work in huge BTEC lab and learn from people who have both teaching and industry experience.

sschoe2, look at my most from a few days ago and watch the vid from this link.
