Biophysics

Ok, so while searching through cc, I found almost no information on this major in JHU. I was wondering if anyone can provide me some answers about this major. 1) Is this major hard to get into? I know BME is super hard and bio is high up there, but how is the acceptance in this major, especially ED. 2) as a wannabe doctor, is this major good for pre med? Do alot of the mandatory pre med courses match up with the courses found here? 3). How hard is this major? SInce, i want to go to medical school, I will need a 3.7 GPA. Is this doable? Thanks in advance for any information.

  1. No, you can declare Biophysics just like you can declare any other major (except BME, which you specifically apply into). It's just as easy to "get into" a Bio major. Hopkins doesn't accept by major (except BME).
  2. Yes. It meets the one criterion for a good premed major: it's something you want to major in. What do you define as a "good" premed major? It includes the majority of the prerequisite courses, so I guess it's good in that you'll have more room to take electives. http://e-catalog.jhu.edu/departments-program-requirements-and-courses/arts-sciences/biophysics/#undergraduatetext
  3. I can't tell you how hard it will be. Look at the courses and think about how strong you are in those subjects. Is it possible to get a 3.7 GPA as a Biophysics major? Yes... Will you have to work for it? Yes.
