How tough is this class? like what are the labs like? How bad is the curve for weeding out and stuff?

I found BIOSC 0150 hard but manageable - and this is coming from someone who never had a real bio class in high school. The lab isn’t connected to the lecture, though the material somewhat follows along. It is pretty hard, but again, doable. It’s a ton of busy work, way too much for a 1 credit course, IMO. Most of the grade for the lab comes from a practical final at the end of the semester, which really seems to freak people out for some reason but it’s not that bad if you understand WHY you did each week’s experiments. But 0160’s lab is a breeze!

The curve for lecture is pretty straight forward: the average is curved to a 75, whether that means up or down, though most sections come pretty close to that average all on their own. The lab doesn’t have a curve.

I meant that the actual class rather than the lab… how is the the bio weeder course in general? I took ap bio and Im doing well but I’m really scared cause I heard weed out classes are insane. just want to have a heads up so im not going crazy

Well, like I said, I found 0150 (the lecture, the lab is 0050) hard but manageable. I don’t have a very strong bio background, so I just had to study a lot and read the materials before lecture. I think the biggest problem is for those who had Bio AP - they think they know everything and don’t need to study as much. Just don’t do that! Take the time (and believe me, the class takes a lot of time!) to read the material and relearn it and learn it at a deeper level than you did in high school.

Also don’t take one of the “easy” bio profs, none of them are easy, some are just more unorganized. Sometimes it helps you, but more often it doesn’t.

I’m going to look for the bio teacher who might be pretty difficult but who can teach really well and helps a lot with the MCAT. Im taking AP BIO and i study a lot every night for that class, and Im willing to study on a daily basis as long as I know its not hard as long as you study.
