it doesn’t make any difference. it’s just for statistical purpose.

phew! pretty much done with my applications to all 13 schools --one last school remaining! All my recos are in, gre scores in, and transcripts in–so glad to be over with! Now starts the waiting game…here we go!

hey everyone! I have a question about personal statements. it seems like most schools say to write in them a description of your research experience, but then most schools also tell you to write 200 words or so on your research. Can anyone please explain how they dealt with this? do you repeat the same thing? I am confused.

I think last year was the worst year to apply for graduate schools because of bad economy. In biochem department in my school, they got only 3 grad students last year since they did not have money. (They usually take 15-20 grad students each year) Do you think that acceptance rate increases this year? Economy is better than last year and Obama passed a bill spending more money on biomedical research. What do you think?

Certain events in the past few weeks have made it impossible for me to apply this year. I will be applying next year. Sigh

Good luck folks!

so i got a 800Q and 490V…

dunno where to apply with those scores now…

and mastermoe what happened?? you got good scores and everything…i hope its nothing really too serious…

SO I decided to show up for the test again today and got 790Q 690V…this shows how unpredictable the GRE is…

Hey great improvement on the verbal Oncogene! Congrats, You shouldn’t have too many worries coming into this application cycle. Good luck.

the test is so stupid…I did not prepare anything this time just showed up for the test after I was in hangover all weekend…felt worse than last time while I was taking the test and the result was significant increase in my scores…it is such a relief though.

Do you guys think I should add more schools given that I am an INTERNATIONAL. I am not applyin to UCs coz I heard they take very few international…however I might add berkely to the list)

obviously you have a great chance.

You might look into Rockefeller and see if you have a research match there. They are very international friendly. But frankly, I wouldn’t worry at all.

thanks GCN2, I did look at Rockefellar. I don’t think I will be a good fit there…I saw a couple of labs where I might be interested in working but just a couple…so thought of not applyin there…

It looks like an outstanding program, but I know what you mean I am having a hard time finding faculty that jump out at me. Then again, I am comparing them to Sloan K or Weill Cornell, where nearly all of the faculty seem interesting haha.

i agree. Sloan-Cornell is up there in my preference list as of now…I am debatin on whether or not apply to berkely. I like their program but they dont seem to take that many internationals…

If you can afford the app, I say go for it. You should be quite competitive among the international candidates that apply, as well as those who are domestic. With a pub in nature and a solid GPA, I really don’t see a big roadblock for you besides citizenship. Then again, all of this advice comes from someone who is actively applying! I might be way off on how I view the application process.

Though if you are planning on dropping a school, pick Sloan. I could use less competition haha. :P

Great job on the GRE’s Oncogene! I am pretty sure you would do more than fine with your credentials! As GCN2 implied, you would be a tough competition for us domestics…lol…jk!! Where in India r u from? Good luck with your applications!

northern india…are you originally from india as well?

Yes I am! My mom is also from N. India! Good to find a fellow indian on the forum!

any internationals applyin to duke? they ask TOEL scores regardless of where you did your undergraduate from? Most of the schools I am applyin to waived it because of the fact that I did my undergraduate in US…
