Biostats

I am interested in biostats, but come from an econ background (from a top public school). I am taking econometrics in my last semester, and decided that I really enjoy statistics. I am also doing econ research for a professor, so I have experience using a statistical software. If I take required math classes (third semester of calc and linear algebra) and an upper div class in probability and statistics, and have some public health related extracurriculars, do you think I will have a chance of getting into a program? Thanks!

Yes! Prerequisites for biostat programs are generally pretty light (linear algebra, multivar calculus, perhaps an applied stat course). The public health extracurriculars are nice, but unnecessary; good programs just want to make sure you have sufficient math background to handle their more theoretical stats courses.

Don’t know what the rest of your record is like and what your geographical restrictions are, but the top biostat places to look at include Harvard, Hopkins, Washington, North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota, Berkeley, Penn, UCLA, Columbia, and Emory.

thanks! you seem to know a lot about this, do you have a biostat degree? If so, can i message you more questions?

Yes, I recently graduated with a PhD in biostats, and yes, feel free to message me for more info.
