Biotechnology Colleges

My daughter has shortlisted six colleges for BS Biotechnology namely:

1) Tufts University
2) Penn State
3) Rutgers
4) WPI
5) Indiana University at Bloomington and
6) RIT

We are from outside of US and not very familiar with US colleges and study environment. Her equivalent GPA is 3.9 and her recent SAT is 1685. I think her SAT is not that high due cultural and language difficulties. Appreciate if someone could suggest the ranking of selection of the above colleges taking account also of the surrounding college towns.

Biotechnology is rarely a specific major at US institutions the way it is in India. Your daughter is probably going to be interested in molecular biology or microbiology departments. At any rate, I would suggest that she look at different schools than the ones you listed here. These schools are all decent in molecular biology but if you are choosing from the entire country, there are better ones you could find. You may also want to consider places that have larger Indian populations so that your daughter might be able to feel more comfortable since you described her language barriers as being significant. For instance, consider UPenn in place of Penn State and Univ of Wisconsin in place of Indiana Univ. If you are deadset on the colleges listed above, I would say that a larger state university like IU or Penn State might fit your daughter better based on social and professional implications.
