Birmingham Restaurant Suggestion

DH and I are traveling to T’town tomorrow evening. Flying into Birmingham and landing around 7 p.m. We’re coming in from the east coast and according to my stomach it will be 8 p.m. (probably 9 p.m. by the time we get our car and hit the road if we’re lucky)

Anyway, I would like to have dinner in Birmingham. Any suggestions for decent places that are not too out of the way from our route?

We like most anything. Hoping for something with a local flavor

Thanks!

The Bright Star in Bessemer is close to interstate, great food and is one of the oldest restaurants in the state. They close at 9 or 10. Check their web site.

It’s more of a chain but kind of not, there is a Seasons 52 in Bham off of 459 at The Summit. Very good!!!

Great BBQ at Jim & Nick’s – it’s near the UA Birmingham campus maybe 10- 15 min from the airport and easy to get back on the highway. We think the food and service at this location is much better than Tuscaloosa.

The Summit…not too far from B’ham airport.

http://www.thesummitonline.com/birmingham/restaurants

There are many restaurants there…some nat’l (PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, Calif Pizza Kitchen), some regional (Chuys, Johnny Rockets, Flemings Steakhouse )…and many more…see link above.

Great shopping there, too!!

Yes, at 5 Points near UAB there are several restaurants. Was at Jim n Nicks there in August. Very good. There is also a Mexican restaurant…I think it’s called Fuegos???

http://www.fivepointsbham.com/

Since you’re arriving late (are you spending the night in B’ham), you will want to stay close by. Five Points is probably best.

Be sure to check closing times. Since that’s a Thursday night, some places may close at 9 pm.

Hot and Hot Fish Club and Cafe DuPont are also great choices in downtown Bham.

Love Jim & Nicks BBQ! They have several locations in Bham.

Bottega Cafe and Chez Fon Fon. Both are great and shid be open - south side area

Are you coming from Philly? Our flight from Philly always lands around 7 pm and we have the same issue. Last time we decided to have a late lunch that day, and then we went straight to T-town, picked up our son, and headed out for appetizers/desserts at Cheddars.

It’s not glamorous, but we actually love to eat at the Jim and Nick’s in the airport. Can’t get much more convenient than that. Our flight home is usually around 1:45 pm, so we often have lunch there before we leave.

^^^ hahaha, I usually get a bag of their rolls to go at the airport before boarding.

Here’s a second for Bottega Cafe or Chez Fon Fon. Also Jim and Nick’s in Five Points South. Avoid the Summit if you want local.

I second The Summit…the Season’s 52 is wonderful. Also really like Chez Fon Fon too.
Summit is nice as you can wake up and get a nice breakfast before you hit the road to T-Town or do some shopping. My girls love The Summit.

I would die to go to any of Frank Stitt’s restaurants: Highland Bar & Grill, Chez Fon Fon, etc. Written up in Garden & Gun and loads of other national media.

Problem with trying to stay local is the time on a Thursday night :(
I’m all for local places and avoid the large chains like the plague

The Summit is an easy on/off that is not far from the airport with several options that should be open later on a week night.

We finally dined at the Season’s 52 at The Summit last month. LOVED IT! Went to the one here in Dallas last Sunday for lunch.

Thanks everyone… you’re the best! Yes, Lisa 6191, we are coming from Philly. I guess we’ll see you on the plane. I will wear some bama gear. My name is Michelle

We’re not coming this weekend, but we have taken that flight from Philly several times. It’s a pleasure - you go from Terminal F in Philly which is SO much less crowded than B/C. The plane is on the small side, so you will need to gate check any carry ons that are bigger than a backpack (it’s free and they bring them back up to you in the jetway when you get to Birmingham).

Have a great weekend!

I am from Bham so feel free to PM with any ?'s- Not sure what time the local places stop serving but I would maybe call and find out- definitely better than a chain…

I went to seasons 52 and was still hungry when i got home- haha!!
