Some of you helped me out regarding my (Plebe Candidate) son's birthday this Sunday, and my hope of having a cake delivered. I called Delano Hall and they asked what day I needed the cake; I told them Sunday and they asked me to call back today. However, when I called today the person who answered the phone told me no, they do not do cakes on weekends.
I called Bruce's and they need the following information: Will the Academy accept a delivery on Sunday? What phone number at the Academy can they call if there is a problem? What building and room number do they deliver to?
Does anyone have any experience with this, or know if I should just give up on it?

Personally, my suggestion would be to just have the cake from Delano on a weekday. Having stuff delivered to the Academy, especially to a P/C this early in the year can get a little hairy.

Here is an option. There is a cake in our area that is famous worldwide. I called and they keep all their flavors on hand (they are pound cakes). You can have one shipped overnight to your son and it will be there by tomorrow. If you have signature required that would help.

It won't be on the day but I bet he will still be suprised....now here is the question, will he get to eat it?

Another option maybe you could get some styrofoam and make your own cake out of (wrapped) powerbars, peanut packages, gatorade single packs, hot glue and straight pins perhaps throw in some small american flags like candles. Please warn him of the straight pins. You could mail that next day yourself.

Good luck

Wow, you have some great ideas!! Thanks for the help--I knew there would be someone out there with more creativity than I possess! I should have asked Delano if they would do a cake on Monday, even if that's not his birthday. I'll give them a call back, as well as check out the mail order pound cake for tomorrow.

LL, I am sorry you had to "go first" and find out for all of us that Delano doesn't do cakes on week-ends. Why don't you arrange for it on Monday? A great way to start the week and only 1 day late. Good luck with your plans for a celebration! I checked the calendar and my son's August birthday is a Tuesday, so thanks for passing along the info. Happy Birthday to your son!

Yes, another Sunday birthday coming up here. The eaglet's b-day is in early September and then Labor Day might foul up Monday as well. Will definitely take some advance planning.

Yes, I would suggest some very advanced planning. I called Delano again to see if I could have the cake served Monday. At first it sounded like a go, but then it turned out the chef will be gone until Wednesday! They are, however, normally happy to help you with a cake for any Monday through Friday. I've decided to have a cake shipped from the company SupportMom suggested. That way it will just be sent to his mail address and I don't have to worry about having someone there to receive it. I won't worry about what day he gets it, and if it's WAY after his birthday, that will just make it more of a surprise! :) Sure appreciate everyone's help on such a minor issue--but birthdays have always been a pretty big deal in our family!
