bit off too much for Jr. year and grades have suffered

my ds wasn't allowed to take APs til his jr yr. he has always taken honors classes and been an A/B (occasional C) student. he felt he needed to 'catch' up and took on 4 AP's with 3 honors classes. this yr has been horrible and as a result he has lost motivation, has a sub-par instructor for 2 of his AP classes, he is stressed to the max. i worry we have ruined all chances of college choices. i expect his weighted gpa at end of his jr year will be 3.5. we hear colleges don't care abt sr grades, but we need them to care abt sr grades because we are tweaking his schedule for gpa purposes, but still taking honors and an AP class. i am thankful i attended college yrs ago bc there is no way i could handle the requirements kids have today. we may all be committed before this process is over!

His weighted GPA is a 3.5?

for this year, i’m afraid so. he came into jr yr with a 3.89

What are his grades specifically? Did he fail any classes?

Junior year is arguably the most important year for colleges because its the last whole year that colleges get to see - while a huge improvement senior year might help, the detriment of a lousy junior year might be too significant to reconcile.

If he took particularly hard classes - like AP Physics C, BC Calc, etc and managed high C’s, that might not be too bad - but if he’s pulling off D’s in average-rigor APs, then that might be cause for some serious concern.

he has AP US, AP Macro, AP Lit, AP Earth, Honors Pre-Cal, Honors Spanish IV and comp prog. I don’t have actual grades with me. he hasn’t failed anything . . He has had C’s and D’s though. this qtr he had 84 in 3 of them, just 1 pt away from a B which only makes it more painful . . .
