yeah, that's exactly why I stopped asking for my chances on cc cuz you never know. Some kids might just be trying to deter you from applying so as to increase their chances. Call me paranoid but that's my explanation! Especially at the coughCornellcough forum.

Sometimes, people are just being realistic. While I'm not familiar with bobby's posts, false hope can be very crushing when the rejections roll in. After all, it's called the 'chances' thread, and that's what people do: give chances.

Of course, some people don't know good credentials when they see them, and say that someone has a bad chance even though the opposite is true. That's just annoying.

There are some bitter chances-thread-making-people that cannot take any form of criticism. This also applies for the people who ask for grading and advice by posting their SAT essays.

Personally, I veiw the "what are my chances" as "I'm fishing for compliments". I mean do you really need a bunch of strangers you don't know to tell you how to go? Most if not all schools list the demographics for each incoming class. Find it, compare it to yourself, if your numbers are higher, chances are good. If the numbers are lower, chances are good you won't qualify.

Well, duh, CC is a depressing place. People are competitive. The high school years typically aren't the best years of someone's life.

I always try to be a little more enthusiastic and positive. Unless there is some sort of snobbery or they just are posting the flaunt their stats.

Personally, I think if you KNOW! your stats are exceptional, you shouldn't be asking for your chances cuz other posters can just infer that you're trying to flaunt your grades.

I personally believe that we have reached an apex where college admissions is now becoming extraordinarily competitive and very unpredictable, I mean I know people who got into Harvard but not UC Berkeley, and others who got into UC Berkeley but not UC San Diego or UCLA. My graduating high school had some really wild results, and thus my predications are somewhat skewed perhaps.
