Bitter?

Here’s a place to grumble about the people that got in over you that shouldn’t have.

So far, someone I know with a 1290 SAT and a WEIGHTED GPA in the 3 range got in. Absolutely no ECs, very little community service.
I’m a little ****ed.
The fact that he’ll be going to Cal and telling people that he got into Berkeley just makes me cringe.
Sorry to be so negative, but hey…I should have gotten in over him. he had no hook or anything.

well i was disappt because im a female, i want to study engineering, i have good sat and great grades, i wrote good essays, became an intel semifinalist and all this berkeley knew. but u know what it came down to?

..............................whether i was instate or outofstate

what an absolutely pathetic reason to be rejected.

sorry if i sound so bitter and a bit arrogant, but what the hell...i was accepted to cornell engineering.

Extremely.

Cornell is a better school than Berkeley so why are you complaining?

I got in, but I'm bitter about my aid package that makes it (virtually) impossible to attend. Does that count?

same problem here, zach. for goodness sakes, ucla gave me 6000 more in grant money. that's a huge difference. actually, ucb gave me none in grant money, only a scholarship.

Sorry to make a tangent, but could somebody explain to me where they found their financial aid information without having to access that Bearfacts thing? I can't use it because I didn't get the CalNet ID or whatever, and they say it's on the admit letter but I haven't gotten it mailed to me and I can't find it online.

rooster.....cornell is not better than berkeley in terms of engineeirng.

sDaLi.. first of all, i agree that rejecting you based on in or out of state residency is ridiculous.. but i'm just curious, how'd you find out THAT was why you were rejected?

I'm sort of bitter, but I look at it this way, even though they got in with lesser stats than myself, this has fueled my fire. My dream school has always been Stanford. My realistic number one was Berkeley. Now its time to work my butt off at Davis so that I can turn my dream into a reality. In all seriousness, if I do get into Stanford, and I must compete for a job against a class of 2009 Berkeley graduate. I'll most likely edge them out if we both have undergraduate degrees in the same major (besides Engineering and Business).

I'm not really bitter. may be a sign that I should go to east coast. I've always wanted to leave california. When I filled out my UC app, I asked myself. Gee I've written an app... Why don't I just click on UC schools I like and see what happens? Result? I got into UCI, UCD, UCLA (shocker), and UCSD. Didnt get into UCB. And UCB is the one that calls asking about financial aid info and polling me my top 3 choices, which I did not passionately say UCB is #1. I'll bleed for CAL!

Yeah, I'm not really all that bitter. But then again, Cal's never been a top-choice for me--I just clicked the extra button at the last minute. Still, it would've been nice to get an acceptance after my UCLA rejection. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to pick between USC and UCSD.

prophasi....i believe that employers look at a Berkeley and Stanfurd degree in the same context. It might be true that Stanfurd degrees are more desirable, but that does automatically assume that one with a Berkeley degree cannot compare with one with a Stanfurd degree. I am pretty sure that employers know that getting top notch grades at Berkeley is extermeley hard because of fierce competition. Yet, at the Farm, there are rumors that they "will hold your hand" until the day of your graduation.

i've heard that too, mosharma.. graduating with honors at berk is a lot harder than graduating at stanford with honors.. not to say that the classes at stanford are easy (who am i to talk.. i have senioritis to the max right now) but that stanford will help you more than berk will.. harvard's grade inflation is even worse.. when 91% of the class graduates with honors, you know there's got to be something else going on..

btw i'd just like to warn all you guys before hand not to listen to rooster, he has nothing better to do than come to the berk CC forums and bother us berk kids about how stanford owns the hell out of us (which, frankly, just isn't true... sorry rooster, maybe one day you'll get over your inferiority complex)

First of all I got denied from Cal, but I don't really care all too much I was going to UCLA the moment I got in. Cal's too dirty and ugly(women). And in response to the employer and looking at your degree, I really don't think an employer pays that much attention too which candidate goes to a better ranking school, because there only better ranked by a few spots. An employer decides on who he hires through personality and character kids. If he sees a jackass from an ivyleague or a nice guy from a UC he's going to take the guy he can bond with and who can contribute to a group. And finally, a 4-year doesn't mean sh** anymore, everyone and their mother has one, it's all about your post-grad education, so its better to get good grades at an easier school then go bust youre ass and get a 2.5 at Berkeley. But anyways have fun at hippy berkeley ill have fun in westwood

Rooster: why do you say that? I need actual reasons not bs ones, because i got into Cornell engineering ad well as Berkeley...and CMU but thats lower on the list. SO now i need to evaluate the schools, and pick one-which will be so much harder than i thought.

oh gosh...must we argue between berkeley and cornell engineering? its ok. if you get a degreee from either univ that would be great. also, having spoken to current undergrads at both places, i think i would like cornell engineering better anyways because its a place where they push u to do work. well, good luck to those who got in.

oh, regarding how i know, i am using logic. ppl with lower stats and fewer ecs got in from cal that i know of to engineering. it mite seem arrogant, but i really dont know why else i was rejected. if only i lived in ca....
