Black Admit Weekend

^I disagree a bit. Not just for the club/organization, but for the campus in general. UCLA has notoriously low minority percentages (apart from Asians, who aren’t a minority at UCLA).

Oh, well then I’m glad you had a good chuckle to yourself, westerndad… but why do these programs deserve ridicule? Like I said, they’re for recruitment, not for segregation. It’s a simple pre-matriculation activity. I suppose then you are against groups such as the Black Student Alliance in general. Because I guess they’re just segregating the campus as well?

wow i didn’t think thread would get so crazy… i was wonderin too about transportation. I am still waiting. and to the people that are going r u guys going alone or are u bringing someone wit u?

I received a call at about 6 p.m. confirming my time and source of transportation. Apparently I will be receiving a couple more phone calls with exact details and possibly a packet in the mail. From what I have heard, there were about 500 African American admits, I suppose it’s going to take a while to contact everyone. Be patient…

Westerndad: I was simply referring to binta92 stating the purpose of this weekend, and further emphasizing that this thread was established for Black admits.

thanks for the info SusieH. i was getting worried. hey r u going by yourself or are u taking a parent with u?

“I suppose then you are against groups such as the Black Student Alliance in general. Because I guess they’re just segregating the campus as well?”

Yes.

I do, however, wish the students on this thread the best of success at UCLA.

Westerndad: Thank you, I appreciate it!

Babygurl14: I am going by myself. My parents don’t want me to go to UCLA, let alone the trip.

** There were 407 African American admits according to the UCLA press release on April 7.
check it out: http://www.newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/ucla-admits-12-098-freshmen-students-87095.aspx

SusieH, thanks for the link. It’s good to hear that 407 African Americans were admitted. Now the challenge remains to see what percentage of that 407 actually matriculates. Would be nice to have at least get 35% of those 407.

Just a question. If you sneer and ridicule the event, what’s to say you wouldn’t sneer and ridicule the students who attend?

The issue I have is responses like this perpetuate the self-segregating. The ridicule does not endear me to wanting to meet too many of the “majority” because I don’t know whats lurking underneath.

will we recieve the check if we havent given student intent to register?
because
i’m still debating between ucla & ucdavis

i am wondering about the scholarship also, i haven’t sumit my intent yet buct i was thinking about the scholarship.

“The issue I have is responses like this perpetuate the self-segregating. The ridicule does not endear me to wanting to meet too many of the “majority” because I don’t know whats lurking underneath.”

Cause: the event.
Effect: the responses.

By the way, no racial group constitutes an outright majority at UCLA. (Asians, I believe, are a plurality.) It is possible that if you are suspicious about what “the majority” have “lurking underneath” them, they may not be quite endeared to meeting you, either. Both would be the poorer for it.

Best of success for you at UCLA.

I got an e-mail about what we are going to do there. Now I am getting excited…still waiting on the call for transportation…

Westerndad, how can you wish the best of success to the Students of this thread while you are denouncing our decision to attend Black Admit Week? Like many more before me, if it doesn’t affect you, don’t make insulting statements. Spend your time elsewhere, please.

Now that I got that out of my system, I’m so excited. Can’t wait to meet the future great minds of the future. Go Bruins! Black, White, Latino, Asian or whatever :)

Hope i didn’t offend anybody now…

“Westerndad, how can you wish the best of success to the Students of this thread while you are denouncing our decision to attend Black Admit Week?”

Since you asked: Of course I want students on this thread, and every other thread, to be successful. The nation needs bright, hard-working people.

I ridiculed black admit week. I did not denounce the students who attend.

Rofl. This is kinda funny.
