Black Male, 18, Sophomore Transferring to Junior Class. Chance Me?

SAT Scores: 2200
High School GPA: 3.6 or higher, not exactly sure.
College GPA: 3.57. I am an economics major and have taken six econ classes thus far and received A's in all of them. One bad grade (C+) as a first semester freshman (in a literature course that I can't even transfer credits from) really screwed my GPA.
Dean's List for the past 2 semesters (showing improvement from my terrible first semester, I hope)
Recommendations: Amazing, from two economics professors, one of which teaches at Harvard now and is fairly well known.
Essays: I think they're good. They make a strong case for my need to transfer which has to do with the size of my school and its teaching style.

Focus: Behavioral Economics, Economics and Law, or Finance (still unsure, but leaning towards the latter two)

EC's
Graphic Design External Consultant
Mock Trial (County Champions, State Finalists)
Model United Nations
Student Gov. Vice President
Founded a Small Company (under $1000 in total revenue)
Peer Tutor
Debate Team
Piano
Teacher's Aid for Elementary School Classes
Homeless Shelter Service

Honors/Awards:
Dean's List 2 out of 3 semesters in college
Honor Roll throughout high school

Hooks: I'm a Black Male who started college early at the age of sixteen. Not sure if this will help me but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Also my parents and I are close friends with the dean of admissions at Stanford.

Drawbacks: I'm on social probation because I got caught drinking on campus (ouch)...

Applying to:
Stanford
Brown
Cornell
UChicago
UPenn (not Wharton Business School, though)
Carnegie Mellon
Northwestern
Rice
UMich
Notre Dame
USC
Vanderbilt
Washington U in St. Louis
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
UT austin
George Mason

Thanks for your time! Chance me!

That probation is gonna hurt big time honestly, but your SAT is fantastic and upward trend is always good. Good luck :D!!!

You have to think about who you’re going against. They will have similar, if not higher, GPAs than you, and will not have probation. If you were a 4.0 student, then maybe this would be a little different, but even without it, a 3.57 is on the lower end of the competitive schools on your list. And 1 C+ could not have killed the GPA. You have other non-A grades, I’m assuming.

You’ll be somewhat competitive, but the probation may be a deciding factor. It won’t be the most important factor, though.

While your SAT score is good, your GPA is gonna hurt you regardless of your major GPA vs cumulative GPA. Also, the probation thing is gonna hurt too, but I’m sure it won’t be the deciding factor of whether you get accepted or denied. Your EC’s don’t look that great but it seems your recommendations are gonna be good so it’ll balance out. I can see you getting into Vanderbilt, but the other schools (especially ivies) are high reaches.

Thanks for your honest input. Obviously getting into any ivy as a transfer is next to impossible, but I figured it was worth a shot. Anyway, my dream school is really UMich, do you think i have a good shot there (im out of state, by the way)?

UMich’ll be tough for anyone who’s out of state, but it’s worth a shot. As for your reaches…it’s not like you’re going to be guaranteed admissions, considering the fact that the they’re crapshoots for everyone. That probation’ll probably hurt, as far as applications go.

is it too early to bump this?
