Black Man/Ivy League?

you'd have a good chance even if you weren't black/legacy. good luck on your SATs :)

Haha, it looks like you shouldn't have told the other jealous posters that you were black. If I ignore the fact that you are black, it looks like you still have a great chance. If you do end up at an Ivy League school, try not to be cocky or arrogant about it- it will only reinforce the "completely unqualified minorities can get into any school they want" stereotype. Good luck at all of your schools!

LOL @ Sesquipedalian

OP- good luck.

yayayayaya!

Old threads FTW!

ey yo son, wuzzgood..
just poppin up nah mean?

nah jk man xD
but you have an amazing chance in all of the colleges you mentioned!

haha. even disregarding the fact that you're black, you have a good shot.

Did you happen to take the SATs since this thread was originally posted?

sort of

I've been scoring about 2270-2330 on practice tests so i'm really hoping for at least a 2300 when i take it next saturday.

SAT IIs I've taken the real practice tests from the other big blue book and my real scores for them are:
Literature: 750
Biology: 770
World History: 800

If I only want to pursue humanities, does it matter if I don't take something like math IIC? my english teacher (who just agreed to write my rec!) says that not taking a math will hurt my chances at a lot of "top tier" schools -- but somehow i can't totally believe that...

top tier schools want well-rounded students. this doesn't mean being great at everything, but more being competent in varied areas. taking the math II would allow colleges to see that, hey, you're not just good at humanities.

legacy and race definitely help. you have a good shot at yale, everything is a toss-up for the most selective schools...
good luck

clap, clap Wow, your stats are really good!! I think you would have a good chance getting in those schools even w/o considering your race/legacy.

I love how people are saying the OP has a "good-shot" at Yale. PLEASE... He is a shoo-in!

Have fun at any college of your choice next year eating food :)

UPDATES:

[ul][] SAT II Scores: Biology M (740); Literature (750); World History (760) --> again, another interesting pattern w/ my test scores! (SATIIs - consecutive; PSAT - all same number!)
[] Attending the NHSMI Summer Program at Northwestern (5 week summer piano and music program - had to audition to get in, seems legit)
[li] Waiting for AP scores![/ul]
[/li]

Do you think that:

1) I'm doing legit things w/ my time this summer
2) That my SAT II scores are high enough? I don't want to retake any of them, but I will if necessary...
3) yay!

AHHH!!!!

I just got my AP scores:

Environmental Science (4), World History (5), English Lang (5), Biology (5), Calculus AB (5)!

I am officially a national AP scholar (seven 5's; one 4)!!!!!!!!!

Eeee you're amazing!! 5 on WH?! Damn, do you guys have a competent teacher over there or are you just amazing... or both? xP Good job on everything. You'll be faced with a pretty hard choice of where to go when you get accepted everywhere. >:]

Holy crap... You put me to shame! I would say for sure, your chances at Yale EA are amazing. I mean, legacy + your stats = exquisite.

Man, can you not apply to Yale EA, save some spots for the normal people out there? 'Kaythnx. XD

OMG. I'm not an URM, and your stats are WAY better than what mine are. You really should be proud of what you've done in HS, eating food!! I really don't have anything much else to comment about your ECs, GPA, or PSAT ... except for WOW! PSAT of 222 is excellent, and if you score that 2300 on the SAT I, you're even better. Your SAT IIs are also impressive. Your AP grades will get you credit anywhere. Your ECs are very impressive, and you show leadership ... I'm simply astounded!

*Chances: *
HPY: Reach --> URM status will help even more (They're top Ivies, need I say more?)
Columbia: Reach --> ditto
NYU/UCLA/Fordham: Don't worry about it.

Btw, eating food, if you have the time, can you chance me and, while doing that, laugh at my miserable stats? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html

Thanks ... you're doing so well you might end up being my boss in the future ... lol ...

ok the fact that you have legacy + affirmative action
its gg

in my school a black kid who was blind got into princeton/yale/harvard/columbia/stanford

I'm so jealous of you ;)
