Thanks

I think you definitely have a unique history (in a good way lol)... Harvard, and other Ivies for that matter, like to see students with really different backgrounds and ones that have a story behind them... I think it's more effective than just being the uber once-in-a-lifetime student (you have to have good grades though of course and lots of EC's -- which you have) -- so I'd say you have a pretty good shot at snagging that letter.... just apply to safety schools too...

Your lack of rank will be negative so it means you SAT scores probably count more. I would tell you to be sure to display your past through your essays.

I think its pretty twisted that you used the title Black People!!! to get peoples opinion. Your lack of judgment..........speaks louder than your scores and your story.

I don't know what the problem would be with your title. That's precisely what you're asking about! In 2006, and again in 2008, Black Enterprise listed Harvard among the top 10 colleges in the country for African-Americans. In 2006, it was the highest-ranked non-HBCU on the list.

"I think its pretty twisted that you used the title Black People!!! to get peoples opinion. Your lack of judgment..........speaks louder than your scores and your story"

hmmmm.....thats an interesting thought. I must say i disagree....may i ask why you think this?

I remember that article about Boston police thinking some black Harvard students were imposters. So, I'd guess there is a degree of racism. But honestly Harvard would probably be one of the least racist places, they have an amazing amount of diversity. As far as chances, raise the SAT and you got a good shot.

I can't really attest to the environment at Harvard in regards to the black community there, but I would say that you have really good chances. The only thing thats holding you back is that SAT score, if you get 2100+, I would say that I would be very (very!) surprised if Harvard didn't admit someone who has such an interesting story and is clearly dedicated to school/overcome obstacles.

If you do get a 2100+ on the SAT, you're in for sure. You've come a very long way, considering your background.

I think you're competitive for most colleges and universities and I do hope you have a good list. High achieving Black male students are highly sought after by top colleges. If you have stellar grades from IP that should compensate for your SAT scores. Very few AA scores about 2100. So, institutions look at other factors.
