Ok so I got an invitation to this BSAI event. I was wondering if it meant anything.

It means you’ve likely been admitted- so it’s a likely letter. It says so when you open the attached brochure in the email/mail and look at the FAQ’s

Has anyone gone to BSAI before? Was it worth the trip? I heard it is a lot of partying w/ alcohol. I am not a partier like that, are there alternatives to parties?

dalaha - I’m a sophomore and BSAI was one of the big reasons I chose Duke. You don’t have to go out if you don’t want to and you don’t have to drink if you don’t want to. Alternatives to the more party-like events are offered throughout the weekend like bowling, board games, and jazz performances. Recent movies are also shown on campus in a theatre. If you decide to attend, I’m sure your host will help you figure out which alternatives are more fitting for you.

And it was definitely worth the trip. Personally, it gave me the reassurance that there’s a supportive black community within Duke that you sometimes don’t see on your run-of-the-mill campus tour. And while this wasn’t as much true for me, you end up meeting people who will ultimately become your close friends the next semester.

@langduke2016 thanks a lot! This is off topic but did you get a decent financial aid package from duke, if you don’t mind me asking?

@dalaha yes, i’ve gotten great financial aid packages from duke for the last two years! Despite what’s being put out in the media right now, Duke meets 100% of demonstrated financial need. If your parents make below a certain amount ($60,000, I believe), then there’s not much to worry about in terms of finances. But make sure to apply for any outside scholarships to possibly knock out loans and work-study (unless you don’t mind working).

@langduke2016 thanks!!! I feel a lot better now haha

Yo I am also going… I am super excited to see how the black community is at Duke nd to TURN UP lol This will really be my make or break if I want Duke or not so I hope it’s good

Has anyone been contacted by their host yet?

@Socoengineer - If BSAI is going anything like last year, hosts don’t even know who they’re hosting yet. When I hosted last year, I didn’t find out the girl’s name until the night before.

Oh ok. Thank you!
