much to my dismay, today i learned that although my school is a feeder school to harvard yale and other great schools, we've been blackballed by princeton for quite some time now. i always knew that no one ever seemed to go there, but i didn't think that they were actively denying applicants who got into harvard and yale w no trouble... apparently its because of our head college counselor used to work in admissions at princeton, and hated it, quit, and tried to discourage everyone at my school from applying, and princeton fought back by not taking any of us anymore. jeez! i'm gonna have to seriously consider looking elsewhere...

terribly sorry but you can at least take comfort in the fact that your school is a feeder to other Ivies. mine is only a feeder to community college.

but that's not a bad thing for you (if you're not the typical community college-bound kid). in fact, it can be a good thing since colleges want geographical diversity, right?

back to how my life sucks cuz we're blackballed... JK lol, i'm not that bummed, i'm only a junior, what do i know about where i want to go?

not really since every year we have the group of outstanding students who apply to the Ivies and are rejected. we've had ~3 acceptances in 4 years and that's pretty low considering how many have applied, excluding recruits. it's just middle of the road America in AZ.

is it worse to be "black balled" or to have blue balls?

fear not! i was the first person accepted from my school in 14 years.

but was it because princeton hates your school? (that ppl didnt get in before...) anyways, your hesitation about wanting to go made me reconsider various aspects of the school...

heh that hesitation was temporary anyways....

and yes, princeton, it seemed at least, hated my school. my interviewer touched on the matter a bit too. the valedictorian 3 years ago had a 1550, was a semi-recruited athlete, applied early decision, and didnt get in. it would seem they hate us. the next year a kid got in to brown PLME and many others (intel semifinalist), but not princeton...odd.

film, where's your school? is it public or private?

All "hatred" should be in the past with the new admissions dean. Some schools that rarely had Princeton admits have recently been courted...

you should just think, since you can not do much about it, positively
that your school is a feeder to various great colleges.

my school, as far as i know and hear, has never sent a student to ivies or ivy caliber schools or nation's top schools whatever. NEVER. oh darn.
oh and. i dont think colleges "REALLY" want that kinda diversity(i mean, geographical diversity but not hs-to-hs diversity)

yeah hopefully new dean = my options not diminished.

aparent5 is right. The new admissions dean is actively seeking students from schools that have not been traditional feeders. Hargadon made it hard for Stuyvesant kids to get in and the faculty complained. Now they're back to recruiting from there.

my h.s. is in the same position. my h.s. (berkeley high) is extremely liberal and urban and pretty much considers itself opposite from princeton university. This year, it's the first time that a princeton representative came to recruit here and there is probably 3 or 4 competitive applicants applying there from my school this year. Hopefully, I'll be one of the applicants that Princeton takes from a underrepresented school. = P

i doubt that princeton would refuse to take all applicants from a high school just becasue of a bad relationship with the guidance counselor. that would be really petty.

Someone last year was the first to get into Princeton from my school in 50 years!

Same thing happens at princeton High with Brown University. I think someone broke there ED commitment or they let a bunch of kids in and none came back in the '90s, and now nobody gets in, even though we're sending 1 to harvard, 1 to yale, 4 to columbia, 4 to cornell, 2 to dartmouth Early decision this year from a class of 270. That doesn't even include RD...

i'm glad i dont live in princeton(as a high school student)

our school is an ivy feeder. This year alone just from ED we have

2 Princeton
2 Columbia
3 Cornell
3 Dartmouth
1 Brown
2 Yale

also
3 Navy
1 West Point.
