blackberry for college

I'm starting college in the fall and many people have told me about the benefits a blackberry gives college students (organizational tools, email, web access, other apps and features that increase productivity, etc.). Does anyone else recommend getting a blackberry? Or does anyone not suggest it? Share your opinion AND/OR experiences!

As far as cost goes, I would be paying $30/month for email, web access, excess minutes, and unlimited texting. I think that is a very good plan price, considering most people pay $70+.

Thanks.

ummmm… IPHONE… dont let those blackberry users suck you in lmao i used to have a blackberry yea it was nice i liked it got nothin against it but yo im tellin you once i switched to the iphone i realize on how much i was missin out on… you can do EVERYTHING on an iphone you can do with a blackberry [ besides BBM but who need that when you got AIM… ] and there are so many more features on an iphone its ridiculous lol

and as far as what will keep you more occupied it aint even close … when your bored, the iphones got you lol jail break it and you can get alllll these games/apps… what you gona do with a blackberry… brickbreaker? hahaha

TRUST ME !!!

I have a blackberry, I went with it over the iPhone because it was easier than swaping a bunch of services and crap. Plus touch screens are a ***** to get used to and just suck over all…I need a good old god dam keyboard, Blackberry FTW.

Naaa chill most touch screens suck but not the iphone dont get it confuse with the blackberry storm that touch screen is horrible or like the LG touch screen phones they are unsensitive as hell… iphone touch screen never messes up never once had a problem with it and you dont gota press buttons more than once, and if you are at least a bit tech-savvy then you not gona have a problem with usin an iphone at all i got used to it in less than a week

but true i mean if you really prefer a keyboard then yea go with the blackberry like i said i got nothin against it but if your gona compare it to an iphone its no comparison… go read internet reviews most of those geeks say i phone lmao

Yeah, I love my Blackberry…don’t be fooled, there’s tons of BB apps to be found, they just aren’t sold in iTunes. I assume you have the wherewithal to Google it.

iPhones aren’t available on most major networks, and from the sound of your bill you either have T-mobile or another cheapo carrier, which probably doesn’t support the iPhone, so the Apple fanboys are likely barking up the wrong tree.

anything the blackberry has is hardly a “good old keyboard”…

you really don’t need either one, though, but if you want one it’s really just personal preference. I have a fairly standard flip phone that does what I need it to but not much of the fancy stuff. I do have some web access and while it isn’t that great because of the screen size it’s probably more than I need anyways. I don’t see the huge need for email or any of that other stuff constantly, anyways. I definitely wouldn’t mind having an iPhone (or even a blackberry), but for me, at least, it’s not worth the cost.

AbbyP: I have verizon. The family plan I am currently on makes it way cheaper compared to an individual plan, that’s all.

abby … the thing is with an iphone it is very easy to jail break it [ trust me i learned how to do it in 5 min by doing a quick search on google ] and you can get any app you want … lets not get into an argument on which phone has better apps lol, plus the internet is actully real and like you would see it on a computer… i hate that html version or whatever you call it dumbed down version of the internet all the other phones got

but your right about the network part, at&t is fine though and hebrewhammer the cost is not bad at all lol when i got the new plan the 16GB iphone was $200, with a discount i got it for $150, and im paying 65 a month for 500 minutes, unlimited data, and unlimited texts… btw i aint an “Apple fanboy” lol im just tellin him how good the Iphone is i used to have a blackberry !!! like i said i liked it but lets see how quick that changes if you start using an Iphone

nYc91… I am not arguing with you.

I have used iPhones on multiple occasions, I do not enjoy the touchscreen. It drives me nuts because it responds so slowly compared to the full keyboard. Not only is it slow, it’s oversensitve. I brush a napkin against it and it zooms. I don’t have to worry about that with my BB. Also, my phone gets wifi, so I don’t pay for data. I just break into any unsecured or WEP wifi around, which, in NYC where I’ll be going to school next year, is just about everywhere.

Blackberries get the real internet. You have the option of using mobile sites that load faster, but by no means is it required.

So someone owning an iPhone and suggesting it to others makes them a fanboy? BlackBerry fanboy? Get over yourself.

Not sure what you mean by “swaping a bunch of services and crap” (???), but the touch keyboard is not at all difficult to get used to (was hardly even a transition for me), and it most certainly does not suck. I could probably type quicker and more accurate than you can on your BlackBerry.

As a college student, my iPhone absolutely obliterates my old BlackBerry in literally every single aspect. It also synchs flawlessly with my computer, which again, as a college student, is a huge convenience.

(I’m aware it isn’t on Verizon, so it isn’t an option, but people who clearly have never “used” an iPhone really shouldn’t be down-talking it)

I think the BB has the most legit keyboard, without getting a girly phone that freezes all the time (rumor, sidekick), plus its really easy to operate. Im pretty sure adjusting to the iPhone would not be hard, but for me I perfer to keep my music on a seperate ipod. For scenarios such as driving, if I i had my iPhone plugged into my car playing music and i got a call, I would have to rip it out and would prob wreck anyway. With running an old fashin iPod seperate from my cell it works out much better, but then again I drive alot.

abby i know im not tryna argue with you either i was just sayin “lets not argue about which phones apps are better” but about the whole touch screen thing… dunno what you talkin about because it doesnt respond slow at alllll lol i know what you mean about other touch screens they are bad but the iphone is immediate… i used to use the blackberry [ i know i already said this like 3 times ] but i swear i can type just as fast with the iphone your right its real sensitive but thats why you can put it on lock !!! just like the blackberry if you put it in your bag/pocket without it being on lock since the keypad is right there it gets annoying …

and adam you right lol i was sucked into that whole blackberry world for a while thought blackberry was the best and iphones were w/e until i actually got 1… now look at me lmao i feel like an Apple rep… but yea you really have to use an iphone and see how much more you can do with it before you try and determine by yourself which 1 is better

she means that she doesn’t have AT&T and would rather not deal with termination fees, etc. to switch over to it.

No Adam. Owning an iPhone and then attempting to dominate discussion in a thread specifically geared towards another type of phone to try and get the original poster to spontaneously change his mind means you’re a fanboy.

Do you think the OP has chosen this phone with no research prior? Probably not. Chances are he looked into other smartphones and didn’t like them, and you know what? That’s okay.

And I have used a damn iPhone already. I love my iPod and Macbook. I am not “the uninitiated.” I used it for three weeks. I hated it. I couldn’t wait to take it back. I prefer the Blackberry. Not the end of the world.

^^yep, and She auctlly is a He

I have an idea. Why don’t you try both and then decide which is best for you.

Another reason I chose the iphone over a Blackberry was for the ease of surfing the web and variety of available applications (everything from twitter to games, or facebook to news journals). I also enjoy having all my music on my phone too. Saves me the trouble of carrying an ipod at the same time! If you listen to music a lot, that can save you some pocket space and some hassle!

You really don’t need a Blackberry for college. You need a Blackberry when you’re a high powered businessman. But they do come in useful, I like the non-touch keypad. If you’re going to be paying $30 for all of that, definitely get it. Great deal. Such a great deal I’m wondering what it is; you mind telling us about it?

^ Blackberry’s are good for push e-mail. Any e-mail you get is instantly pushed to your phone. So instead of you “checking your e-mail”, you get e-mails at real time like text messages.

Also there is BBM’ing which is useful if a lot of your friends have it.

iPhone has push email too, among other push-enabled things.
