BlackRock Vs Morgan Stanley

I have been landed with a full time analyst position at BlackRock and have got the opportunity to interview with Morgan Stanley now. I am was confused as to which would be a better company to work with in terms of:

1) Pay
2) Growth
3) Better company in general

I would be really glad if you all can send in you thoughts.

Thanks!

it depends entirely on what you are doing at each of the respective firms. what are the offer/interview for?

I would be joining the technology team as a software engineer. Its a entry level analyst position.

since its tech it wont make too big of a difference. MS is an investment bank so it will carry a better name, which will help you when you switch companies. they will likely offer you a slightly better pay, but be prepared to work more hours for that.

Does anyone think that an “ap” for an Iphone that gives job interview bullet points would be helpful?

@showbiz most random post ever.

I did an internship as a tech analyst at a BB, not MS but one of their immediate competitors. If you are looking at software engineering I really wouldn’t consider either of these places–go to a silicon valley software firm or to a technology focused trading firm in new york (where technology is really at the center of the business rather than just a cost center, like it is at all of the investment banks). So many people go into these tech analyst roles at BB firms thinking that they will be able to move to the business side (banking, trading, etc) after a couple of years. There are only a handful of people that ever can make that switch. I dont know if that is part of your motivation for pursuing the positions, but if it is I would suggest reconsidering.

Also, I have a good friend that works at blackrock in tech. They pay (essentially) the same as MS, so I don’t think there will be much compensation difference. I’m not sure how much you’ll get out of MS’s or Blackrock’s brand name if you aren’t in the front office (my guess is probably not much) but thats a question thats probably better answered by someone else.

Well, BlackRock is the only job offer I have now. But Wanted to know if this will be a good enough job offer or should I look for more options? The whole interview and job hunting is tiring process that why wanted to know if it would be worth it to pursue another hunt.

Is BlackRock a good company to work for in terms of future job hunt say after a year or so of job here into real tech companies like microsoft, google etc. will work experience here add value?

Thanks

Blackstone might be slightly (very slightly) more prestigeous as a company, but that’s in the financial world, in the tech world, I have no clue.

@openedskittles

don’t mix up blackstone and blackrock, they are 2 totally different beasts altogether.

Blackstone Group is a prestigious Private Equity and BlackRock is a very presitigous Investment Management firm… you really can’t get more “prestigious” with either Morgan Stanley or BlackRock…

If that’s the case then you are just gonna have to go with the one with more compensation. BlackRock is pretty damn prestigious.

BlackRock is more prestigious and harder to get in than Morgan Stanley. People move from sell side to buy side. But you can’t go wrong with any of them.
