Hello CC,

I am currently a 10th grader who wants to go to a prep/boarding school for 11th and 12th grade. I am currently researching Blair Academy, and like what I see. I am trying to get my parents to allow me to go to their Open House on Oct. 11th. Does anyone have any insight on the school? Has anyone applied/visited there? Thanks!

It's a great school -- interesting & challenging academics, small enough to know almost everyone, but large enough to have a few circles of friends, beautiful campus, almost all the faculty live on campus, friendly, great college matriculation, etc. By early Oct. the new field house and student center should be open. Visit it with your parents; I think you will all be impressed.

58 minutes! What took you so long?

When you walk onto Blair's campus and interact with the staff and students, you will experience the warm, supportive, nurturing environment it offers...take a look at the course offerings - they are challenging and diverse...and the facilities will continue to impress you. Blair is a wonderful place - definately go to the October open house!

My son is a Blair grad and I have experience with a number of different schools. Blair is amazing and you will love what you see in October. I believe Blair offers the right combination of challenging academics, a nurturing environment and a competitive athletic program (some sports are tops in the country, others more inclusive of everyone). Please feel free to PM me with any questions.

thanks momofwildchild. you have a pm

Hello MBURGOS:

Our 9th grade son will be attending Blair this year, in fact we will be dropping him off tomorrow. If you told us a year ago that he would be attending Blair we would have called you crazy, it was one of our safeties. S got into a number of schools- BS'S Choate, Taft, Peddie and DS'S Delbarton, Newark Academy. All the BS"S offered great FA but we went with our heart and we chose Blair. For a varety of reasons- geography, golf course(S is a good duffer) and the family atmosphere of the place.

For example, we visited the school three times during the application process and on each one of those occasions either the headmaster and or his wife met with us personally. During our open house visit the headmaster had a one on one with our family for nearly an hour. That impressed us a lot -no doubt a direct result of the school size ( about half of Choate's) - Blair demonstrated to us that they deserved our son.

I say this so that you don't limit yourself to what "you" alone think will be a good school , don't have any preconceptions our biases, and involve your parents as much as possible.

Blair maybe a safety for some , but many people rave about how Blair has positioned them or their child to succeed.

Thanks, I still doubt my parents will go for this. One, I am actually enjoying this year, and two, I got invited to spend a month in Europe this summer for an ambassador program, and its very expensive. So much for a boardings school down payment lol.

I take that comment back. I dont like my public school. Same old same old.
