Blair v. Miss Porters

Okay. Based upon some of my friend's high school results, it seems to me that Blair Academy is easier to get into than Miss Porter's; however, Miss Porter's offers a better education. Can anyone give any evidence to dispute/support me on this? Thanks.

Both are good schools. The question should be, Do I want coed or not?

@5school again, Why are you asking this question if you applied to Putney last yr.?

^ ??? how is that relevant to the question?

^I think maddog assumes she automatically wants Blair since Putney is a coed school.

oh. well, irrelevant anyways

“it seems to me that Blair Academy is easier to get into than Miss Porter’s; however, Miss Porter’s offers a better education.”
well if MPS is harder to get in than blair, then usually it would provide a better education… exclusivity = the better the school. to an extent, anyways. there’s a reason why it’s hard to get into…
(and i’m saying TO AN EXTENT because like, FA plays into it too, as well as um… to put it bluntly, noblesse, as with le Rosey)

for example, andover (15%ish) versus holderness (50%ish)… hmm.

According to boardingschoolreview, the acceptance rate at Blair is 35% while the acceptance rate of Miss Porters School is around 45%. The acceptance rate at Blair used to be around 45% several years ago, but the school has been on the upswing.

Girls might have a slight admissions advantage at Blair, but I don’t know this for a fact.

I don’t know why you think you will get a better education at MPS. Because Blair is larger (445 vs 320), there should be more academic offerings. While college outcomes do not indicate what your outcome would be, the college matriculation from Blair is excellent [Blair Academy - Admission](http://www.blair.edu/Admissions/ad_matriculation.shtm) For some reason, MPS does not publish how many graduates matriculate at a particular college [Miss Porter’s School ~ Matriculation List](http://www.porters.org/podium/default.aspx?t=105146)

You should plan to visit both schools so that you can assess which would be the better fit for you. Both are great schools.

@Divealive. Just wondering why she posted her acceptance to Putney. I
m curious why she
s considering applying to schools this yr. when she applied to schools last yr.

^
" Putney… I really liked it, but it was way too small for me. "
interesting what a quick “View More Posts” can find :P

We must assume she didn’t investigate the size of these schools before she went through the process of being admitted, hence waisting a full yr.
Hey Dive, take a cool dip in the pool and chill. Your polar bear is hot today.

actually being there in person on revisit day can tell you a lot. maybe (s)he didn’t visit for the interview and didn’t have a firm grasp on truly how small the school was.

and as for ‘chilling’, you’re kind of overreacting, seeing as my previous post wasn’t offensive at all (nor was it intended to be). :)

Back on subject… Blair’s acceptance rate this year was 32%, according to the admission office. I don’t know a lot about Miss Porter’s, but Blair offers a top-notch education.

It seems like two major distinguishing factors are location (MPS is in NE, while Blair is in NJ) and type (coed vs. single-sex). They’re both great schools, so you can’t go wrong!

Okay, just wanted to clarify that I am a male, and I have already completed my high school application process. This thread is simply out of curiosity. Thanks!
