Our incoming freshman d just found out she is assigned to a single in Mitchell. Is this a blessing or a curse?

It depends on what she's looking for. My d moved into Mitchell in the middle of freshman year because she didn't want all the partying/noise 24/7. She was able to get her sleep and organize her time as she saw fit. She made friends in classes and groups she joined.

I would bet it will turn out to be a blessing. D is a junior, but she decided after experiencing CI in a 5 room suite, that Thurston wouldn't be a great fit for her. She lived in HOVA the last year it was used as an undergrad dorm. Thurston is just so large that there is always something going on 24/7 and even if the room is quiet, hallways and next door room mates may not be. Thurston is close by so if your d has friends there it will be easy for her to join them to socialize...and return to Mitchell to sleep or for some quieter study time. And if she decides she really loves the high energy atmosphere one finds in Thurston, then a room change is always possible.

D is feeling better and better about her assignment. Sounds like many of the students assigned to Mitchell are in the same situation, it not being their first choice, so those that have the desire to be more social will make it happen. And how great will it be to have a kitchen on each floor. Thanks for everyone's input on this.
