Blind roommate pairing

Does it really work?! I'm scared that I'm going to be stuck with someone who is the complete opposite of me, for example goes to sleep early, etc. Any current UMich students or alums who can give their insight?

There is a Facebook group for guys set up to hopefully find a roommate so you don’t have to go in blind. I can link it for you if you’d like (and you are a male).

And does this mean you chose Michigan over Penn? If so, welcome to the family!

Post the link! :D

Haha I’m still kind of deciding, but I started looking into Mich housing. I’m leaning toward Michigan though! The campus and everything is amazing. I’m also a female

I went in blind and have a great roommate. I also know of people who have had awful experiences. Just don’t room with a friend from high school. That usually doesn’t work out from my experiences, plus is keeps your social circle much smaller.

You all should remember that your roommate will, at worst, be a one-year arrangement. You can ask for a new roommate after your first term though, should it be rally bad. Also try to remember that generally speaking, you will not spend much time in your room your first year. You will basically go there to sleep, shower and change clothes! Most of your time will be spent in class, libraries, cafes, sporting events, parties etc…

Most students start off trying to become friends with their roommates but end up having functional relationships based on mutual respect. There are extremes of course, ranging from becoming best friends to truly not liking each other, but neither is very common.
